Ken check with the Snap-on guy if he/she comes around. If think they make a tool for in an air hammer.
All the air hammers I've used or owned, the harder you pull the trigger the faster they run/beat. I'm talking about the rivet setting tool that goes in the hammer, which forms the head of the rivet and not a flat punch.Boomer1025,
Good suggestion. Snap On Tools do carry air hammers.
However, even though a rivet gun and an air hammer can do the same things, an air hammer is not a good substitute for a rivet gun.
Normally air hammers do not have a "teasing" trigger to get down to two or three strokes as needed to form the shop head. In riveting, too much or too little strokes per minute ruin the rivet.
In this case with tractor steel rivets, it would work. But I would use a ball peen over an air hammer for the same reason.....more control with a ball peen hammer.
hugs, Brandi
There is a huge difference in air hammers and a rivet gun. An aircraft sheetmetal person will testify. I have a couple of different rivet guns, all for different applications. If you choose to drive the rivets with a gun you will need more than a 4x gun. I would look into an 8x for 3\16 rivets made if steal. If the rivets are monell as we use for aircraft the a hard hitting 4x gun will shoot them. You can look for these tools at boeing surplus, The Yard, US tool. As contracts go way you can pick up these tools in good shape fairly cheep. I also find deals at pawn shops around big airport towns.
I've a rivet gun, I think it's a silver eagle sold by matco tools. I think the dang thing cost me almost $600 dollars. It'll rivet 1/4 inch rivets and I'll tell you, it's the smoothest little tick when it sets it. I fix cars for a livin', and I use it to install window motors and tracks, but that's not what I bought it for. I was a little better off 6 years ago, and was planning on building plane. well... that part didn't work out so well.. I never even got started on it, and I lost all my money. but, I got a nice rivet gun haha.
