After watching the Nextel Cup race in Fontana, I have to say the Fox Network does a much better job covering a race than NBC. Seems like there were twice the commercials last week and their talking heads aren't as good. I'm sure there is a lot to what determines how many ad's go on but I still think FOX kicks their butt. This is only my opinion as I'm sure there are plenty of folks that like NBC to cover the race. ??

My SO. the NASCAR junkie, agrees big time, FOX has it down right.

I agree, with FOX they only have a couple of the CUP races they cover air on their FX network, with NBC you get to see nothing until final 10 races if you don't have able because they let TNT cover them. Steve

It also looks like Fox will have the rights to Datona 500 coverage for next year and the following 4 years. They mentioned that on the pre race show.

Not sure what was up there for Daytona. Usually I like NBC coverage about the same or better, but it appeared they were off their game last week. There were numerous things I saw that they made no comment on or commented wrongly IMO. Didn’t help much that they lost a lot of coverage because the helicopters that normally beam signals couldn’t fly in the foggy weather. I really like Wally’s comments the best, but agree they were not "up to speed" for some reason. I would like to have heard what was going on with the tires sticking outside the wheel wells on Jr’s and some other cars. Used to be you wanted them absolutely flush for aerodynamics and running them under the fender as they were seemed to risk cutting them over bumps. Normally you would see that on short track cars on the right side for weight distribution, these were sticking out the left side. I will assume it was narrower bodies, was thinking surely they would mention it but nothing.

Only problem with Fox as I see is the coverage appears geared for the new race fan and therefore a bit simple. I could do without “boogitie” and “crank it up.”

They are definetly going for all the viewers they can. I guess they figure the die hard fan will be there no matter what so they are trying to get some casual viewers with all the clever buzz phrases. I'll have to start listening to MRN with the volume on the TV cut off.
The next big marketing coup for the France's will be to have a couple of hot shoe African American drivers. They are dying for that as it will bring in a ton of viewers ala PGA.

Don’t know if the internet broadcast is the same as radio as far as timing, but I found out during Speed weeks MRN’s web broadcast is about a lap behind real time. My local radio station apparently doesn’t carry MRN any longer so I was listening to it on the net while chatting with a friend on instant messenger....she was watching live on Speed Channel and said “oh no there goes the big one” and it was probably a minute or so before it came through on MRN’s webcast. Could be a delay due to passing through NASCAR’s site? Not sure.

I could do without the "boogitie", but I really like the "crank it up" on the surround sound!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Fox does have better coverage than NBC.

I don’t have surround speakers hooked up so I’m probably losing something there. It was last week’s three part harmony of broadcasters choreographed announcement of “let’s crank it up” that I thought was over the top, the sound is cool. Check out the audio in the link SkyPup provided in the V12 diesel Audi thread here, it’s awesome.
