I just received a 2006 Agricultural Identification Survey in the mail from the National Agricultural Statistics Service...apparently its mandatory per Federal Code...I've never heard of this before or the NASS...

Anyone know?

I just got one too and so did some of my friends who have acreage. You can go to their website listed on the survey to see the results of their surveys. You know how the government loves statistics.:)

I got this survey too. Was wondering how they could prove that I actually received it via standard mail.

Guess this post is their proof now though. ;)

I received one also, the good thing is that they put the county on there so you know which piece of property they are talking about. Never heard of it before, but will fill it out and sent it in. The interesting thing about it information on it regarding the number of small farms and their incomes.

I got one a few days ago. Why would I get this? The only thing that I figure is that I filed some farm income for my 2005 taxes. Never before, and none planned for this year.

That, and my county has some information about the land.

However, I gotta say that they didn't make a very good first impression.

On the cover of the envelope: "YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW"

Yikes...isn't that a subpeona? Should I consult my attorney? So what if I don't respond, huh? Watch gonna do to me if I don't? Huh? Huh? Oh yeah?

:)

My personal view is that information has value and that taking or demanding anything of value without compensation or consent is the equivalent of theft. It's one thing if they asked nicely, but they didn't.

LOL- I've already been assimilated!

Sounds like the Feds are doing a pretty big survey on small ag operations. I figure the info isn't anything that the locals don't already have, so might as well let the 'big boys' know too.

From Here...

The instructions for the questionnaire say "Response to this survey is legally required by Title 7, U.S. Code." Title 7 of the U.S. Code is an enormous document, containing 105 chapters, each of which is a lengthy book unto itself. To find the specific requirement, a person would have to read all the way to Chapter 55, Section 2204g, to discover that a person who falsifies an answer to the questions asked may be fined $500; a person who fails, or refuses to answer, may be fined $100.

Mine went in the trash...
