Thought I would post these 3 Pictures of my X-Rays from a couple years ago. Here is the story.

I was putting sheething out outside my new house, of course on every day that you mess with OSB or plasic outside it is windy, but that is a differnt story.

Everything was going great my dad was there helping. As i set the nail gun down my thumb hit the trigger & it went off!! I later found out that a piece of OSB jammed the safety plunger down.

Well after it went off i said to my self " That could be bad!" I ask my dad if it hit him he said no. Well then I took my right glove off, then I tried my left ~~ & well it did not pull off as I looked at it there was a nail though it.

My wife was out with us watering some newly transplanted trees so I had her take me to the hospital (not to my likeng but they new me there.)

The whole time it did not bleed untill the doctor pulled it out.

And to be honest it really did not hurt untill they gave me a shot between the bone & nail.

I was lucky - it went straight through the bone - did not crack it or hit any mussle or tendens.

I'm in the process of building our new house right now. Earlier this summer I was framing up some interior walls and had a little mishap. In a log house the downstairs interior walls need some room for settlement. For some reason we made the gap too small on one wall so we took the sawzall and cut down the studs to open the gap up. I had to nail the top plate back on to the top of the studs. I was on a ladder and one particular stud was a bit short so I was holding it between my left thumb and forefinger and had my middle finger resting on the side of the top plate to steady everything. I had a about 14 inche of room between the top plate and the ceiling. I shot the first nail at an angle into the top plate securing it to the stud. Unfortunately the nail gun recoiled, hit the ceiling and came back down where the shoe hit the top plate a 2nd time and fired a nail. It skimed the board and went into my forefinger below the middle knucke and came out below and to the inside of the first (smallest) knuckle. It didn't really hurt going in but I knew what I had done. Think my first words were "S.O.B., I just shot myself in the hand" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Went outside and my father in law cut the glove off. It almost looked fake. I gave it a little tug and decided I really didn't want to pull it out myself. I took a couple pics and called my wife to take me to the hospital to get it removed. We had lots of strange/horrified looks and comments there. Some of them were pretty funny actually. It didn't bleed a drop until the pulled it out. Ended up with no major damage as it completely missed the bone. It did sting and burn for a while though. I'll see if I can find the picture...

PS. the bump trigger was replaced as soon as I got back from the hospital that afternoon.

Ouch!....
A neighbor of mine was under his house nailing something and managed to fire a nail into his HEART!
He lived, but is now basically blind from loss of blood to his brain. Just wasn't his time I guess.

Wow, makes you think about how much power these things have. The first time I used me nail gun I put 3 or 4 nails in a stud by accident because of the kickback. I switched to the one shot per trigger squeeze before I used it again. I like it much better this way and man does it save time over a hammer. I'm glad to hear no one was hurt more severely.

When we were finishing off our shed, my son held his hand behind where he was using the framing nailer and he got bit by the nail, put only a slight hole, now he knows bettor.

When we bought the framing nailer the first thing that was thrown in the garbage was the trigger for the automatic shooting of the nail, installed the one where you have to pull the trigger each time, more work but safer for the occasional user.

Holzster what type of nails were you using coil or strips, the strip are usually held together by glue (25to30 nails)actually easier to pull out, the coil nail are held by 2 wire (200 to 250 nails) these can be tricky to pull out as the wire tends to act like a fishing hooks when one tries to pull out the nail...cag
