Happy New Year to you all.

I noticed that the shaft on my NAA generator had a little play in it, so I took it apart. The front bearing does have a bit of side play and is a bit rumbly. I put some heavy oil in it as a temporary measure, but I know it will need replacement.

Question: can I find the right bearing somewhere and install it myself? It appears to be a press fit on the shaft. Is this a job better left to the pros with special tools? Or do I buy a new one? The brushes, commutator, and rear bearing appear fine.

I had a NAA genny rebuilt.. neaw bearings, brushes, and field.. comie dressed.. all for 80$.. I'd guess they might hit you up for 10-20$ if you took it in disassembled and they just had to R&R a bearing.. etc.. Doesn't hurt to call and ask..

( Most of my old ford gennies and starters have been less than 100$ to reman... I'd opt for that vs buying a new import.. )

Thanks Soundguy. I just called around and found a shop that will inspect and repair it for $45 + parts. Sounds great to me.
