I'm having trouble now with the tractor. It will start fine and idle great, but then it will just begin to loose it self and quit. I let it sit for a couple seconds start it, and it does the same thing, over, and over.

I took off the sediment bowl cleaned the screen. Screen wasn't dirty anyway. Put it back together turned the gas on and watched the bowl fill up. There was a steady stream of fuel coming out, then it would drip fast, then stream again. There should be a steady stream of fuel till the bowl is full correct?

I did check for spark by taking off the coil wire to distributor cap off. Grounded it to the frame. Turned key on. Pushed starter , and had spark there.
Funny thing is it started and ran that way for a few second till I shut it off. Still did the same thing. Can they run with the coil wire grounded to the frame?

Actually now that I think about it, I should of disconnect the plug wires off first. Right? Then check spark from coil.

Thanks. I will try cleaning out the tank first , and see if that clears it. I know the gas line shouldn't be it beings it did it before it could get up to temperature.

Try it with the gas cap off or loose.

Tried it. Well not with the cap totally off. I took it off then put it back on, and tried it. No luck.

Take the sediment bowl off and let the gas run into a can or something to see how it runs. Running into a sediment bowl might be on/off, as it has to get rid of the air. Also, take the line off at the carb. and let it run to see what happens.

you said you pulled the coil wire out and grounded it to the frame, turned it over and it started?

impossible.

That's what I would think. I pulled the coil wire from center of distributor cap grounded it to frame hit start button to check for spark. It had spark about a quarter inch gap, and it started to run. I think but know I am not quite sure. Now I am second guessing my self. Next time I am at the land I am going to do the same thing I did to check for sure.

couldn't possibly have run if the high tension wire from the coil was pulled out of the cap and held to the block.

there would be no spark for the distribuitor to 'distribute' to the spark plugs!

I think I'm nuts. As for as fuel flow out of the sediment bowl and to the carburetor you should have a constant flow of fuel. no sudden changes correct?
