Tractor
Kubota - BX 1860 and G1900
So, I've been a pretend tractor guy for a while now with my Kubota G1900 garden tractor (really just a killer diesel lawn mower) and have just acquired a BX 1860. I know that's still a pretend tractor to many of you, but I am thrilled. My wife, on the other hand, seems only capable of feigning passing interest. I've tried to explain to her that "a man ain't no kind of a man what but he don't have something with a hydraulic cylinder." "Meh," she says, "we live in a subdivision - what on earth are you going to do with that thing?" "Stuff" didn't seem to be a very satisfactory answer to her.

I've already got a whole mental list of projects and can't wait to get some seat time. I look at all the landscaping and outdoor projects I've done with wheelbarrows and shovels and I don't know why I've waited this long. For instance, I've got a patio/retaining wall made of 25 tons of cut stone. It's located in an area where I couldn't get a truck close so I had to move it all by wheelbarrow to the building site! I really didn't consider it at the time but I don't know why I didn't rent a machine for a couple of days instead of breaking my back for a couple of weeks!

Bought the tractor with 134 hours and the previous owner threw in a snow blade, piranha bar, under armor plate, ballast box, and 4 bar tires/rims. Everything is almost like new. Good guy, and I appreciate following a meticulous owner.

I've learned a lot through this forum and appreciate the expertise shared here. I've picked up a lot of good information about my garden tractor which, surprisingly, has the same D722 motor that the new BX does. Configured slightly different, but same model number.

So, my plan is to try to get my wife on the machine and let her see just how awesome it is so it will be HER idea to order bucket hooks, lights, etc. Any advice? :)

Jeff

We live in a subdivision on 1.8 acres too. We also have two separate 10 acre piece of land. I spend about as much time on the 1.8 acres as the other 20.

We get it. Maybe with a little seat time on her own she will get it. Then you may not get it back. lol
Have fun.

I get it. One of the first things to go once my tractor was delivered was to get rid of the wheel barrow, wanted to throw a going away party for it. My wife could care less about the tractor but is seeing how much faster projects get done and how many less ibprofins are consumed after.

Well. we've got several hundred acres and several tractors up to 85HP and still consider our BXs as real tractors and would still have one no matter where I lived. My wife now considers the BXs her tractors and the others mine or ours. A couple of years ago, I mentioned selling our BX2200 as we bought a 2660, yeah we kept them both.

Go ahead and get the stuff you want. If she's disinterested enough, she may never notice. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission. At least that's my approach and I've got the bruises to prove it.

You are going to be the envy of the subdivision. ... might even have some of the neighbor ladies asking for your services. Whoa....that!

BTW that is a beautiful set up and accessories.

Congrats... and good luck. It's been 2 plus years with my BX and the wife sat on it once just to pose for a picture. I can't get her to use it. But I don't have a mower deck. Maybe you can convince her to trying mowing the lawn (if it's level) and she might get a kick out of that?

Looking good! Let her play on it! She'll get it after that!!
I came home from work one day that my wife was off and she had my tractor digging with the back hoe!!!

As far as needing to make the accessories your wife's idea. It reminds me of the guy who was working two jobs so his wife could stay home. The guy was actually using a walking stick while he pushed a mop as a night janitor. He told me it didn't hurt to have a little bit of money coming in that the wife didn't know about.

That was more than my wife did. She was a good worker on the farm, but had no interest in power tools such as mowers, tractors, string trimmers & such. She did use the DR string trimmer with electric start a couple of times, but never got on the tractor.

That grapple is nice:shocked:. How much do those run for a BX??

Looks good! Don't have any advice regarding the wife, I gave up on that one long ago....

Congrats, Mate.

Also, its NOT a 'pretend tractor'... especially here at TBN. It's a TRACTOR. And I reckon your neighbours will be queuing up asking for help with their own projects too

I had to override the wife's veto to get my JD 3032e, it's been 6 months and she still she is still angry aboutit. This grudge could last for a while. It has been a back saver and allowed me to do things not only faster, but at all. Best purchase ever! No tractor is a pretend tractor. Great machinery , just accept that your wife may never understand.
If you get the cold shoulder like I get, use it to chill your beer.

Ha ha... good one! I might have to post this in the 'your favorite quotes and sayings' thread!

Congrats on the tractor! My wife used to be more skeptical about us "needing" a tractor. But after having 2 different ones over the past 10 years I don't think she could imagine us NOT having a tractor now. While she still doesn't use it - she sure does appreciate all the things it can do!
