"My Project" - Pictures

   / "My Project" - Pictures #11
Jon,
Nice work ! I don't have anything to compare to that, but I do have a project I'm working on. About four years ago my wife and I bought a house at an estate auction. It had been empty for about five years as the elderly widow had to be placed in assisted living. During those years, pipes froze and burst...... and the neighborhood kids weren't very kind, throwing rocks through the windows and screens on the porch. Even before that, not too much had been done to it in the past fifty years. Built in 1888, and rough but very original, it was exactly what we were looking for. Well, what 'I' was looking for. My wife is not nuts about living in a construction zone. It even still had the original two holer outhouse in the corner of the barn. Couples must have been really close a hundred years ago ! I've got alot planned for this summer, and hope to get the original shutters rebuilt and put back in place (along with 100 other chores). We've got a few rooms done, and a buch yet to be done...... I hope to start on the kitchen this year also. There was alot to love about the house.... like peeling up the ugly linoleum crap on the floors revealed beautiful original wide pine floors. I'll include a few before and after pictures. Unfortunately, no, we no longer have the 63 Suburban :(.

Thank you! I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks that saving a 100 yr old farmhouse is worth it. I believe you may find some issues paying for replacement knobs for those doors. The glass ones (originals not repro) are getting harder and harder to find uncracked. The metal ones, with the locksets (mortised or mounted) are much easier to find. The porcelian originals (not repros) are also becoming more scarce to find (at a decent price).

I took 7 pickup loads of plaster, and countless loads of lathe out of the house, and then insulated and drywalled. I live in mine though.

Good luck, hope you don't have any stone foundation issues. I also want to see your after photos.
