Power Trac PT-1850
I called Power Trac and new start is over 2k. Is there any used starter that I can purchase?

Welcome to TBN.

Where are you located? (It helps folks offer better suggestions.)

Can you share a few more details on what you have done to troubleshoot the not starting?

Do you know that it is that your starter is bad, or the solenoid, or the Power-Trac solenoid?

All the best, Peter

I'm in DFW area. the relay fuse that protects against the starter got burned up and it appears the start has gone out. Is there any technician in DFW area familiar with power trac who can take a look ?

Could you take it to a Deutz service center to be checked?

Apologies if this is a basic question, but does the PT-1850 come equipped with a Deutz engine? I called them and that was the first questions they asked.

Normally, yes. How old is your machine?

The reason I asked above about the parts is that the starter wiring is normally;
Key switch -> booster solenoid -> Bosch starter solenoid -> starter

My Deutz starter doesn't have a fuse on it, so I'm not sure which fuse you are referring to.

Pulling the starter on a Deutz is a pretty straightforward task, but I would make sure that the starter is what is malfunctioning first. Lots of YT videos on how to test solenoids and starters.

All the best, Peter

Most starters can be rebuilt for under $250. If that is indeed a Deutz engine, they typically use a Denso gear reduction starter. If so, the part number on the starter will cross to many starters that are compatible, but there again, instead of doing hours of research to make sure another one fits, bring it to an expert. If they can't rebuild it, they will find you one that is a quality replacement.

I've been working on several engines, many of them Deutz, for the last 15 years or so. No matter what starter it is, take it to a starter/alternator shop and get their opinion. Like I said earlier, Deutz generally uses Denso or Nippon-Denso starters, easy to find parts, cheap to rebuild, and quality aftermarket options are available. Take it to a reputable shop and go from there.
This being said, what is the machine doing/not doing? It is turning over and not firing? Is it doing nothing? do you have good power to the starter? Is the power good to the starter solenoid? What is going on, and what have you tested? We need details to be able to help you out.
