Yup, Looking good Timber. I found another use for PHD. My farmer freind said that they work great for cat burial holes. It is so much easier to just punch a hole in the ground than to try digging one with a shovel.
Jim,
You don't even have to dig the hole first and then throw the cat in.
Just put the cat under the PHD ... start it up and screw it into the ground.

Sorry about that Timber, not to take away from your project. It's looking really good and the pictures are great. Have you had to "muscle" any of the holes? Looks like your ground would drill pretty good?

Oh Yuck
LOL I have had a few holes that I had to stop and go at with bars and the clam shell but it has done very well for the most part. I don't believe I will ever be sorry I spent the money on the PHD

Dang, that would be messy. The wife nor my daughter would approve of that method of burial.

Timber, I don't think you'll ever be sorry about buying it either. They are a wonderful tool to have.

Well I figured I should update the fencing project. I have almost all the post and rail up and all the mesh on the fence that is up now. The look is exactly as I wanted it. The mesh is invisible and I have kept the overall kook of the property I wanted
.

You will have to excuse the mess the place is in but it will be worse before it is better. I have to put mesh on 2 of the 10 foot steal gates and I am making a 10 foot wood gate to blend into the fence going out into the field. I also am making 2 4 foot passage gates as well. It should be all done next weekend and I'll be all set for the pool to be dug

Timber, Looking good. There's never a dull moment when you have a tractor and land. How much does your weight barrel weigh? What do you have in it?

I have about 750 pounds of cement in the drum and about 50 pounds of various lengths of chain and a couple of cable slings. No it is never dull hear ever LOL

Thanks for the info. I need something like that on my tractor for weight. I like that barrel, as it is up close. My beer keg full of cement is too light.

It is a perfect wt for the loader and the forks. The only draw back and not that it is. Because of the wt I didn't want to lift it too high so it cost me a couple inches of ground clearance though it has never been a problem. You can set the bar lower and gain it back but balance and center of gravity was my concern lifting pallets of hay and sawdust into the loft of my barn. I had no interest in using the top link either because the drum has a lid and it makes a nice chain box and storage space

Timber,

That picture with your tractor in it...

Is that a Guinness on top of the ballast? If so, I hope that was the end of the day. (And, I'm jealous!)

Mornin Timber,
Is the drum a 55 or 35 gal ? I have a 35 gal for my Massey and with rocks and cement I think its about 700 lbs.

No that is a 55 gallon drum; I know what it weighs by what I put in it. It has 750 pounds of cement not including the water or the rebar. The tow chains are an unknown wt as it changes all the time but there is quite a bit of chain and a couple of slings some cable some chain. Very handy around the tractor

See in that pic I would have guessed that as a 55 gallon drum. The 35 is usually much thinner in diameter like a grease drum. I could be a little low on my estimate too and you could still be correct, cement is not the heaviest thing you can put in your ballast box

Hhhmmm...

Saw a block of steel recently that could be had for about $100. It was 12" x 14" x 26". Just had this mental picture of welding a couple of drawbar ends on it...

I thought about carving an anvil out of it myself. Unfortunately, it's just mild steel so the surface would be too soft. Of course, just for pounding on in the feild...hhhmmm...

I would have been all over that for 100 bucks. Thats 1 of those things you have to grab when you see it. There are a lot of good minds out there that will see the potential uses for that. I would probably weld a bracket and mount a vice on it too. Over its life you can weld and grind off all kinds of uses for such a thing

I think it was Mr Jimi who posted some pictures about a vise mounted to a trailer hitch. Then he plugged it into a receiver on his tractor. Pretty good idea...that would sure come in handy for me. I would like to mount a vise permanently on the tractor out of the way but towards the rear. Maybe on a fold down platform or something sturdy enough?

I work alone all the time and it is nice to have a 3rd hand to hold something. One of the things that I love about the clamp on forks is I throw a bench top on it and I have a work station every where I go. I have a pair of folding legs I am going to mount on it so I can drive the tractor away and free up my horses but the forks are great when you need some extra support under the bench in the field. I will eventually invest in a Quick tach system for a standard fork carriage but there are a lot of times the clamp forks are just more convenient.
