Hello! I'm brand new here. Just picked this up yesterday...

It's my first tractor, bought more as a hobby rather than out of need. Initially I intend to use it for mowing and moving logs around, although I don't have any implements yet, other than a home made transport box to go on some home made forks. Will probably look for a plough blade too, although we don't get an enormous amount of snow here.

Anyway, I'm hoping I can draw on your collective wisdom. So, first question is, what model tractor do I have? I think it's an F16, but that's a guess. Can you help? Here are a few more photos

Once I have the exact model pinned down I need to get hold of any manuals that might help me work on it and give it a good service. Now, I'm pretty mechanical, and have worked on cars and bikes all my life, but where is the dipstick?! I feel embarrassed to ask!!!

If you open the hood you will find one dipstick on the engine, probably. Look at the back of the tractor around the three point hitch and there may be another dipstick for the transmission and hydraulic fluid. Your tractor has more levers that my John Deere Yanmar.

Welcome to the forum. :welcome: What does the engine tag have on it? 3t75u-nc? I believe that is what is in the F16D. I believe the parts manual is available.
I can tell you the crankcase dip stick on a F24D is on the right side (sitting in the seat) sort of toward the back of the engine and goes in a tube, not straight into the block.

Nice looking tractor. It is definitely a "F" model with 4WD and draft control, so it is a FXXD. Where XX is the HP range. If that is the shift mechanism on the left fender then it is not a power shift (semi automatic) transmission. Here Yanmar F16D Photo Gallery - TractorByNet.com are some photos of the F16D. Check the engine plate for the same specs. Check on the opposite side of the engine from the exhaust for the dipstick.

Thanks for your help. I've pinpointed both dipsticks now. Luckily, plenty of oil in both ends! Engine oil is black as tar but rear end is perfectly clean. At very least I'll be changing the engine oil ASAP.

I've had a closer inspection and I think it's actually an F14D. There are a coupe of tags with mostly Japanese writing but "F14D"' in English characters.

I'm not sure there is anywhere that supplies parts for these is Europe. I've seen Hoye in the US, anybody else I should look at?

And finally, for now, there is a hand wheel under the seat with open and close written on it. What does that do?

On their earlier models, the chassis model & serial number are stamped into the transmission by the operator's left ankle. Check there.

Hoyetractor has excellent mailorder customer service. Fredricks is the source for many third-party parts, for example they contracted a US firm to build ROPS (roll over protection) for the models they import. These are the big two. There are a few more who can help find obscure parts, shipped from Japan (expensive!) if necessary.

That wheel under the front of the seat is a valve that can be closed to choke the return hydraulic line from the 3-point lift. When closed, a rear implement will remain raised indefinitely. Leave it wide open. There should be another smaller valve, maybe on the side of the transmission, that is similar in function but can be adjusted to control the drop rate of a heavy or light implement.

And Welcome!

I managed to cross reference the filters on my F18D to this website FFR-PH3917 FILTER-Lube(Spin On) | In-Line Filters I used the numbers on the existing filters on the tractor to find these. For manuals, or any majors parts, Hoye seems the place to go.

Thanks all, I've been here less than 24hrs and been provided with an answer to every question!

So, I think I need a check list of task. Everything on the tractor seems to function as it should, but I've no idea of what previous maintenance has been done or if the hours are correct. So what if you were me, what would your list of preventative maintenance tasks be? Want to give it a good going over before it gets any hard work. Which of the Hoye manuals are worth buying for home maintenance?

A couple of things I noticed that might need attention:

The front uprights (don't know the tractor term!) are a little oily (not dripping) where they swivel in the end of the front axle.

There is an oil leak from the rear right of rear axle somewhere between the transmission and the right rear wheel. Left a little pool of oil on my garage floor.

Regular maintenance should be done ASAP -- change engine oil, grease all visible fittings, change coolant, change oil and fuel filters. Transmission and hydraulic filters are probably not critical if fluid is clear. You can wait until you get a service manual to find any fittings you may have missed and how often to change transmission/hydraulic fluid and filter.

Tractor diesel oil is normally black soon after a change. It is designed to carry a lot of combustion soot.

Welcome ! If you don't have a parts supplier there, Fredricks or Hoye is going to be about your best parts source. Just a guess,,,,, It will probably be expensive to ship across the pond..
