Finally got my L3940 all pimped out and ready for winter. Have owned it for 6 weeks now. It is a HST model with the beefier R3 tires, quick hitch, and 84" front snow blade. Also mounted is an 84" Land Pride rear blade that was used on my 1950 8N, which I still have. I also added work lights front and rear, and a 7 way RV plug. After various chores with the L3940, bush hogging, mowing, and others, I am spoiled with it's capabilities.

Nice tractor, Philip. You don't see many compact tractors with the dedicated front blade. I almost bought one for my previous tractor, a Ford 1920, and it had a stout frame that hooked to the tractor's frame in several places-maybe even the rear axle. Is yours like that? Are you going to get chains for those turf tires? Last question-when you added a 7 pin trailer connector, did you hook up a wire for trailer brakes?

The sub frame connects with two large pins in the front, two large pins in the mid section, and through the draw bar (using its own pin). Remove 5 pins, a few other steps, and in just under 10 minutes you can back away from the entire assembly. You can also pull two pins and just disconnect the front blade. I do not plan to add chains to the turf tires, I figure if I can move the snow ahead of me, I wont need them. These turf tires are very aggressive, 3/4" deep tread on the rear with lots of sipping. I think they will do well, I will find out. The 7 pin has running, left turn, right turn, ground, and brake charge pins hooked up. I thought about adding a potentiometer or push button switch for electric brakes, but decided against it for now. Philip.

Main duties of this tractor will be finish mow and move snow. R1 tires are, especially on the front when turning, tear up the grass. The turf tires I have are very agressive, 3/4" deep lugs on the back with lots of siping. I think this will be a good compromise. I have R1's on my 8N, plus chains as required, so I will have somewhat comparable experience here. Philip.

I have moved this Woods RD7200 from the old 8N to my L3940. I bought the L3940 instead of more powerful model because the L3940 is the largest tractor you can install a 72" mid mount mower on. I may want to switch to a mmm some day. For loader work, a L4240 would have been a better choice with it's heavier front axle. Philip.

Phillip,

nice looking tractors, I like the front blade. I couldn't give up use of my FEL though but wish I had some sort of front blade/plow for occasional use. I also see you armoralled the tires. You should have entered that in a recent thread called "do you wax". have to admit though I have done mine from time to time also. Seems like it seals the rubber and the muck I get into cleans off a l lot easier.

Great looking tractor!! How about a pictures of the work lights front and rear!
I would be interested in seeing them close up. I can't quite make them out from the attached pictures. Love those slicked up tires!:)

Philip ... What do you mean by "beefier" R3 tires?

My dealer sort of warned against R3 tires with a FEL, like they're a little thinner & maybe somewhat more likely to get a hole punched in them when you're getting into branches or stumps I guess.

Any other opinions on that?

Since I got tractor I have purchased LA724 FEL. No issues here. Are they thinner in the tread? Probably, but I am not working at a construction site. Kubota has 3 options of R3 tires. 1st set is junk tread pattern in my opinion. 3rd set is galaxy, for golf course mowing. 2nd set is what I have. If you look in the Kubota Grand L series brochure, this is all they show. They have a very deep tread pattern, and do great in snow. Fronts are 29x12.50-15. Rears are 44x18.00-20. Philip.

I got my GL4630gstc with FEL and front mount blower. Used for 32 winters and last year got front mount blade to switch out blower when not moving banks or deep snow. It is saving me lots of time and fuel compared to blower on 2 miles of road.

Philip, can you mount the loader with the subframe on and the plow off?
