They delivered my new 252Z on Thursday! I have attached a photo of it just before its maiden voyage. I mowed with it that day, and it was awesome. It ususally takes about 4 hours to mow my yard, and I did it in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The manuverability of this thing is unreal, and it really makes a difference on your speed, esp. in a cul'de'sac lot like mine.

If you are thinking about getting a ZTR and mow over an acre, just do it. Don't get too bogged down in the details. You'll never mow on a tractor again. I know I won't, at least I hope not!

Nice looking machine. If it is anything like the walk behinds you will never need another mower in your life.

Looks real nice. Stopped by the local Gravely dealer a few weeks ago and was real impressed with the design and price of their ZTR line.

Be interested to hear how it does on varied terrain. I have a lot of obstacles -- trees, beds, fence lines, etc but also some rough spots out in the back lot. I probably mow about 2.5 acres, but this generally consumes a couple evenings after work doing it a section at a time.

I'm sure a ztr would be a blast and a timesaver. Who did you deal with in VA? Some results shots would nice too, particularly since the units I saw included a striping kit on the deck...

Very nice ZTR! Gravely makes some great products so I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

Just from what I could see in the pic, it looks like you live in a really nice area... beautiful landscape!

Sportzkat,

I am curious to know how well your 252 cuts. Two years ago, I had a 260z Gravely ZTR. It was a nice and very well built machine, and gave great service. It also cut very fast and was good on fuel. It cut badly on uneven terrain. The heavy fixed mower deck would not follow ground contour well and would ridge. Several others I knew had the same problem with their 260's, but said the 252 did not cause such a problem. I ended up selling mine for a sub compact tractor and subsequently sold that for a 3720 John Deere, but my father still mows a lot. Although he likes his JD 335, I think he would like the Gravely for lawn cutting. Our family has owned six Gravely's through the years and it is tradition. What are your thoughts about the cut on uneven terrain so far?

I also mow about 2.5 acres with some obstacles, and the back part (probably 1.5 acres or so) is pretty rough and bumpy. Bacically a field that has never really been graded. I can't mow full speed, or even close to it, but at a resonable speed it rides pretty good. I think it is due to a combination of the suspension seat, articulating front end, bigger tires, and overall weight of the unit. It does not have a striping kit on it, though one is available. I'll try to post some result shots in the next few days, anyway.

I dealt with Outdoor Power Equipment in Roanoke. Great folks and very easy to deal with. Even delivered the mower full of gas (14 gallons worth!).

Well, I've only mowed with it once and I was so impressed by the speed I didn't pay much attention to the end results! I just built this house about 3 years ago and we are still working on getting the lawn established. Right now anything that is green is acceptable, and we have a 50/50 lawn (50% grass/50% weeds!), so I probably don't have the best lawn to judge the quality of cut just yet. Anyway, I didn't notice any ridging or unevenness, but I'll pay more attention next time and report back. As far as the results you stated from the 260, I have heard the same thing about all larger decks, which is why I went with the 52".

The Gravely zero turns are nice, however I have not found one that my poor old back will tolerate. All I have seen/tried ride fairly bumpy. I will just stick with my old 812 with it's cushy bass boat seat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
