The only place I've seen where people had their own gas wells was when I was doing gas leakage surveys for gas companies in Pennsylvania and Ohio. But there's one thing (actually a lot more than one) I didn't learn there. Since natural gas has no odor and the odorant is usually added locally so leaks will be noticed, what do those with their own wells do about that? Is an odorant added, or do you have leak detection instruments, or what?

Where are you in western PA? One of my sons is in Indiana, PA right now for a summer internship with Dominion.

It's a variance well. They recently reduced the distance between wells to less than 1000 ft. apart to gather more gas. Upon surrounding land holders agreement, they can now drill 900 ft. apart and they managed to fit this one in on my property. Because the drilling my affect water supply, water to surrounding owners must be preserved or quaranteed. Land owner gets free gas and 1/8th royalty. Heirs, investors and the driller get the rest.

This well has proven to has gas and yet to be fracked (making it producable) and tied to a supply header which is scheduled in July. The supply header also runs across my property so it should be a easy tie in. The supply header is about 600 ft from the well.
