Mine is SO SLOW... How Slow is it?
So Slow that even crappy virus filled access at the LIBRARY whups it...

David the good news is you upload speed is almost 50% of your download speed, the bad news is they are both bad, but the really bad news is I have never seen a ping time that slow, including satellite paths. VOIP is out for sure, wow.. almost a second of latency... now that's bad. The good news is you have a great place to live on, a great family and a really nice tractor! You gotta look on the bright side.. Oh, and you are still sucking air, after an accident that could have killed ya...as Martha used to say: "and that's a good thing" :thumbsup: Hope you are getting better every day...

OUCH...that is BAD...my test results from CNET informed me my speed test was slower than 55% of the USA...and Bird, I installed IE 9 on my newest laptop, going to see if that makes any difference. Nope, IE9 made no difference.

I couldn't tell that IE9 made a difference either.

Just did some more checking...our family room desktop that is hardwired to the router tests out at 2200 kbps, the laptop I gave the original test results on is wireless and 20 feet from the router, and delivers a shade over 2000 kbps, and my basement desktop is using a USB wireless adapter, that one checks out at 1895 kbps. The furnace ductwork is directly overhead and enclosed in drywall, which blocks some of the signal. I have measured the actual vertical distance from the adapter and router as five feet.

I'm over 400' from my router through two switches on the wired part. My only problem is that my ISP suffers from quite a few "freezes" per day. I've had them out multiple times and they admit that it's on their side; before cable modem, but don't seem to know how to fix the problem. Granted, my high speed internet works well probably 95% of the time. Unfortunately, it's that 5% of the time when it's slow that I need something in a hurry.

I wanted to share with everyone the computer I just bought. I used to be a Dell guy for years and years. I've bought four desk tops, and one lap top. At first, there wasn't anything to compare to them, but now it seems they have gone the way of all the other manufacturers with lousy costomer support and top price compared to similar machines.

When I wanted to upgrade from my last Dell two years ago, I went to the store and read the reviews in several different PC magazines. Gateway was rated very highly in several magazines, and Best Buy had it in stock. That was the worse computer and biggest waste of money that I've spent in a very long time!!!!

I learned two things. Never buy a Gateway and NEVER trust the reviews in a PC magazine.

HP has always disapointed me in printers. I have one now, and it's OK, but the main reason I bought it was the price and there really isn't anything else to chose from from. Because I consider HP middle of the line and more of a Walmart type brand, I wanted to avoid them.

While at Best Buy, I went online in the store and did a search on Amazon for computers and started reading reviews. I never heard of Lenovo before and dismissed it right off while in the store. I thought it was another Acer type brand. The reviews shocked me. All VERY GOOD. The more I read, the more I liked it. Seems that IBM got out of the PC market and Lenovo took it over. It's not an IBM, but what used to be IBM is now been upgraded and coming on strong as the new brand of PC with the new company name.

For $545 after tax, I have this machine.

It is extremly fast, simple and best of all, totally quiet!!!! I mean you don't hear anything. No hum, no spinning, NOTHING.

I've only had it a day, so this might be a big premature, but compared to everything else that I've ever bought, this is in a league all to itself.

Lenovo is all we use at work for laptops and desktops, thats over 75k strong. They are very reliable, only isssues I have seen are that someitmes they manufacturer the system boards with cheap capaciters and the expand or leak after a while causing weird issues like sudden reboots. They have quick response time for support as well.

I just crossed over to the dark side (iMac and Macbook Pro). I've been a PC guy since before Bill Gates first stole the GUI concept and programming from Wozniak. It's taking a while to get used to but, so far, it hasn't been as bad as I thought. I do like having all the space under my desk again and the totally silent 27" monitor. I just can't do that standard little keyboard that comes with the iMac. I'm using a Microsoft brand keyboard but have actually grown to like Apple's "magic mouse".

Good luck to you Eddie. My first venture in self employment was a basement computer builder. And that was literally what I did; build them in my basement! I sold that business when the internet came along. My customers seemed to fail to comprehend that buying a computer from me didn't mean that they got free lifetime internet training. That with the fact that half of the games sold for PC's were loaded with bugs that would bring down an entire system drove me nuts. People seemed to refuse to believe that the 200 games they installed on their system was causing it to lock up.

I think that brand has something to do with the remnants of IBM if I'm not mistaken. Back when IBM built their own computers, they generally were pretty darn good machines and most problems were software related....which is why I've made this leap of faith; believing my two kids in college and all their friends who all run Apple products. I'm yet to decide if it's just the "cool" thing to do and you have to have a Mac computer to be in the "in" crowd. With 5 kids, my two college age ones are the only ones with Mac products. The other 8 systems in my network are all still PC's.

Yes, it was under the IBM name, however, all of it was made by Lenovo when it was under IBM anyway. All that happened was IBM's logo was replaced by Lenovo and Lenovo took over the whole thing.

I have been known to "soak" a HD in a five gallon bucket with Muratic acid!! Just saying

Me being a datacenter\server admin guy-I have certain perks-
They let me use the hard drive crusher at work Or, I get to use WipeDrive. Then they let me send it to our vendor who shreds the remains into thousands of little pieces-then the metal gets recycled. Same goes with the compter cases and motherboards-it all gets recycled or rebuild and sold by a company called Redemtech. By the way-you can buy alot of our recycled printers, servers, desktops, server racks, and laptops from them at a nominal cost.

That way we don't pollute and we remain green and securely get rid of the old stuff.

Whooaaa .. can't believe it. I had the priveledge of working with an old sperry univac, it came off a submarine. The good thing is, its gone now. the bad thing is it was handling the air traffic in and out of a pretty busy airport..but hey .. it worked.

Two queries...I looked at the specs for the Idea Center desktop and was wondering two things?

What is Intel HD graphics 2000....is it a dedicated video card or integrated?

How many watts is the OEM power supply?
