Forum, Our neighborhood shares a private gravel access road about a mile long,10 to 12 feet wide. We maintain the road with neighborhood donations for gravel and free tractor time from some of our more committed neighbors.

One tractor operator claims that another tractor operator with his 6ft land planer type grader is destroying the crown on the road while he claims that his smaller land planer (I think it is 4 or 5 feet wide) is superior to maintaining the crown.

Yet,the operator with the 6 foot planer claims that overlapping the drag in the middle of the road actually is the best way to move gravel to the middle.

Both operators take care to operate their drags in the right direction and near the shoulder to get gravel moving to the center.

Opinion? We want to keep the peace in our neighborhood.

If you want to move gravel to the center, use an angled rear blade first, then either neighbor can smooth it out with their "grader."

there's a good video on youtube using the plane to grade gravel and to put crown might be a good time for top and tilt ask Mountainview Ranch

Have a test. One operator does one end of the road, the other the other end of the road and see if there really is a difference.

Why not have the neighbor with the wide land plane use the side link and lower the right side of the side link 1-2 inches? This will maintain the crown and force the gravel to the center.

how many ways to skin a cat ?

how many ways to make the best steak ?

how many ways to make chili ?

there are plenty of ways to maintain a road .... have them do it one way for a month , then the other ... then poll the residents on which was best ....

if both are real good ... (50/50 votes ) then have it done one way for a year and the other for the next year ....old age will catch up and everyone will forget what they were fighting over ....
