My neighbor just got his 2210

Well, at least he did read the manual and got it started on his own...

My tractor was delivered while I was at work. Although I had operated the machine at the dealer's before I bought it, I read the manual cover to cover before I operated it at home.

Frankly, anyone who doesn't read their manual and does something stupid (hopefully, not lethally stupid) has no one to blame but themselves. Not trying to be harsh, but one has to take a certain amount of initiative when purchasing equipment.

Hard to believe that a reputable JD dealer would drop off a new tractor without going thru basic procedures (like starting, detaching FEL, safety) with the new owner!

Yup, that's the case. Granted my neighbor wasn't home when they delivered it. But when I got my 2210, I started asking a couple of questions, and the guy just handed over the manuals saying something about ...only here to deliver...
In a nice way I should add, not surly. So I'd guess that they don't give you the 2-bit tour these days.

Wow that last post sure came out messed up.

In defense of my friend, No he did not test drive the tractor. And he has never driven mine either. He was going to go with either the BX2200, or the 2210, either one suited him fine. He's seen my tractor in some heavy duty action while I was clearing firewood on his lot, so I think that impressed upon him the need for a tractor in this class. He's never had more than a push-mower before. My friend simply had zero operational familiarization with his new toy.

I'll also admit that when I first test drove my tractor, I couldn't figure out how to start it. I didn't know it had to be in neutral. Not that I didn't try to put it in neutral, it was so new and tight, it just didn't want to go there. So not wanting to hurt it (ha) I had to get the sales-guy out to show me.

Frankly If I were in the business, I'd like to think that I could do the right thing, and have the delivery guy give the new owner the rundown on the equipment. But you never know, these days someone is liable to sue you over whatever the delivery guy told them.

Well now I feel lucky! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The person who delivered my tractor was the same person that sold it to me. He went over every lever, switch, button and knob that he could see on my tractor. He asked at least five times if I had any questions!
Anyways even after using the tractor for a few weeks, I managed to stall it (got of the seat without putting it in neutral) and then it took me at least ten minutes to start it again! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Turns out my tractor won't start if the MFWD is engaged. I would have felt pretty silly having to call the dealer about this! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
