JD 2210
My friend and neighbor just took delivery of his 2210/FEL/62C yesturday. So now there are two in the 'hood. We're now gaining on the 'botas (2 BX2200, 1 BX22).
Anyway, my wife got a somewhat deperate /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif call from him before I got home. He wanted me to come over to help him out, and show him how to start it etc... I was running late, so by the time I got there he had read the manual enough to figure out how to get it started. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I gave him a quick training on the tractor, including removing the FEL.
He's also anxious to add to the equipment pool. I have a 3 pt. tiller, and a tow behind spreader and a roller. He wants to get something as well to take full advantage of the tractor's capabilities. Any suggestions?

I don't know what kind of turf you guys have, but a 3PH aerator is a great tool for improving and maintaining a good lawn. I hope you guys got two different bucket sizes so you can swap back and forth /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good to hear. I keep telling him that an aerator is what we need. I guess I just needed to hear it from the forum as well.
And yes we have two different bucket sizes. I have the 53" he has the standard 48". I almost told him to go up to the 53", but then realized that the added diversity would only augment the pool. He has 4+ acres, but much less lawn than my 2+ acres so the 48" is better for him, just a tad bit more maneuverable. Plus he less likely to experience the "pucker factor" with the smaller bucket.
On the other hand, I may also suggest that should get a digging bar for his bucket. I think a 48" would be slightly better for digging.

I took the jump and bought a Turfco TM42 a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier. It's a perfect fit for the 2210 and offers what I thought was one of the best ballast designs and spoon wheel pattern on the market. You wil hear lots of other folks that are happy with First Choice, etc, too. The Turfco will cost your neighbor around a $1,100 but it can convert to a pull-behind sometime in the future if needed, and service packages for the coring spoons and spoon wheels/bearings are readily available. The flashing promo price of $1,600 you see on the link below is for the tow-behind version. Turfco sells direct whereas you would need to find a dealer for another model--which can be a good thing for an implement like this. However, I suspect if you bought a Turfco through a dealer you would end up paying around $1,500, though. Here's a link for your neighbor /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

p.s. You are right about the 48" with a toothbar on the 2210. I've often wondered why they did not make a stock 48" heavy duty bucket for the 2210/4010/4110/4115 with a stock HD toothbar. I would view it as another expensive but productive attachment for my tractor. I was told you can buy the 53" HD bucket that is offered for the 420/430 loader and use it on the 410 loader (I didn't check on compatibility with the 210 loader). It's not offered as an option though, I guess because JD thinks the smaller loaders are suited primarily for materials handling chores.

What are all the bottles for? Weight? I'm not sure why those things are so expensive. Doesn't seem like there is much to them.

bigpete,
Thanks for the solid recomendation. I wouldn't know how to pick one out. As we live in a major metropolitan area, there aren't alot of tractor dealers around here. Subsequently, it is difficult to find 3 pt. equipment locally. Even the JD dealer up the road only has a limited selection of (Frontier) stuff on the lot.
Most of this kind of "specialty" equipment is sold to landscaping companies from specialty suppliers. It is a stand-alone self-propelled piece of equipment not designed for 3 pt. or tow behind. Therefore, buying direct is probably his best bet.
BTW, Did you get your TM-42 direct from Turfco for $1100?

Hard to believe that a reputable JD dealer would drop off a new tractor without going thru basic procedures (like starting, detaching FEL, safety) with the new owner!

Hey, CCKJone. I opened a drawer in my (wife's) kitchen tonight after reading the signature on your post. She has a greater variety of kitchen spoons in one drawer than I have screwdrivers in my tool chest.

Now you've shattered my whole marital/spoon trust structure. Which spoon should I trust?
/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I trust my cereal spoon... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ...should I cut out all the rest of the spoon variations and spoon only with the one I trust? Should I be skeptical of the teaspoon provided to me to stir the cream in my coffee? What about the mutant spoon that always stays in the sugar bowl?

What about my Daredevil spoons for Northern Pike and Muskie? ...and my Johnson's Silver Minnow weedless spoons when I have to fish the shoreline in rough water? Can I still trust my tackle box? Henro, can I drill a hole in my tacklebox as long as I don't mount it to my ROPS? Should I still head to Canada in July for my fishing trip?

p.s. Agreed...I'm not sure how the delivery person got out of the driveway without showing the owner how to start the tractor...Perhaps the buyer wasn't home?

I can see this...
Oh thats okay, my neighbor has one, he will be over in a few minutes.
Besides, I have ran his a few times....

I am not trying to be insulting to your neighbor and at the risk of being chastised by some I will go ahead and say it. I can't believe someone would not be able to start a tractor. Even if they were a true tractor newbie and had little experience with a tractor, surely they at least test drove this one before they bought it? What did they do just go to the dealer, hand them a fistful of cash and say deliver the tractor? I wouldn't be so quick to blame the dealer on this one.
