This is my last month at work. I've been teaching 26 years in the same highschool classroom here in Maine. Students I once had have been sending me their children! 12 years before that were spent working for the state of Mass. -mental health counselor, assistant psychologist, teacher, and group home work nights while I earned a Masters degree. Before that it was waiting tables, summer camp counselor, and farmwork- where it all began. I'm tired, have an arthritic hip but satisfied and looking to the future. Finally I can do all of the things I have wanted to -time wise. My forge has been calling to me, along with all of my house projects, gardening, urges to paint, and get into the darkroom- have to put it back together!
Never thought this would happen- we'll be scraping (my wife is retiring as well), but to call one's own shots, that's a real blessing!

Congratulations for making it this far with your sanity intact! (It is intact, isn't it? :D) You'll probably find yourself busier after retirement than when you were working.

It'll be five years of retirement for me come the end of the month...how time flies!

Way to Go! Enjoy the time, but don't plan on everything getting done at once. Pace yourself.

Congrats!
And if your not looking for work welcome to the 47% of the population that depends on getting money by not working.

You do realize that your chain of command is now you and your wife don't you? Could be two of the hardest bosses you ever had. :)

Two bosses? I must have missed something... Who did you mention besides his wife? :D
