If you recall, my 2012 L3800 was taken in for it's initial service at 53 hours. Afterwards, it had lost power and would bog down, suddenly going from
2200 rpm to 800 or so. When it would do this it would smoke and cough but never die. I could engage the clutch and it would ease up some and
do this for a few minutes then start running again. Not the power it had before the service but at least I could work with it.
Someone said to bleed the fuel system. I did this several times and each time it would run ok then do it again. I'd bleed the system and it'd run ok then bog down again. Not as often as before I started bleeding the system, but it would do it at least once every hours worth of use.
At 64 hours, I changed the fuel filter as several folks here suggest and it now has 68 hours on it and has not bogged down once and it has it's old
power back. I'm a pessimist at heart so until I have at least 10 trouble free hours on it, I'm not declaring it fixed but it does seem to
be back to normal at this stage.
To those individuals that suggested bleeding the system and changing the fuel filter, I want to say Thank you. And thanks to everyone that
responded to my original thread.

You must have got some bad fuel at some point?

I don't think so Sean. The fuel I had in it before and after taking it to the deal was the same. It ran fine before taking it in and like crap
afterwards. No change in fuel in between. I'm convinced that they got dirt in the system somehow or did something else to it if the
new filter is not the fix I'm hoping it turns out to be. I guess it could be a coincidence and there was something in the fuel that just
happened to make it's way to the filter at that time but after 41 years as a cop and detective, I don't have that much faith in coincidence.
Thanks,
Dano
BTW: the first step I took was to drain the tank and put fresh from the pump fuel in. Didn't help.

'Dano as an old ex cop myself, like you I would not pop the champagne just yet, I would give it a while, but perhaps when you changed the filter yourself, maybe there was a piece of debris or something that came out. I am glad it seems fixed, and hope it stays that way.!

Maybe something swimming around the tank?

Had the same issue with my 4035,I drained the tank the best I could and hooked up a shop vac through a five gallon bucket so I could collect what was in the tank. The problem was plastic drill shavings from the tank. Ran good for the next 6hrs and started again. Drained it again and got more shavings and a rat turd! (Yes you read that right)Been running great ever since.:D Hope all goes well good luck.

I hope that was all it was. I figure 6 more trouble free hours and I'll have a Killean Red
in celebration. (don't care fore champagne :) ) I don't want to take it to my dealer. I'm
retired now and my blood pressure has never been better. Just don't want to deal with
it. Besides that, it's 140 mile round trip, a day wasted, and just an overall pita.
You retired James? Been retired a year now and I'm lovin every minute of it. Got a
place, 28 acres way out in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but nature, the wife and dog
and me. Deer, turkey, a bear now and then, all kinds of smaller wildlife and clean fresh
air. I actually look forward to getting up in the mornings and starting the day. Got real
burned out there toward the end. Been dealing with low lifes since 1969 and I'd just
flat had all of the thankless BS I could take.
But, I digress.
Thanks,
Dano

Had that happen with a 93 Harley FLH. Tank had
a bunch of plastic crap in it. Never did figure out
where it came from. Finally ended up putting another
tank on it. No rat turds though.

Hi Dano, ex- cop from over 30 years ago, I have spent the rest of the time in Telecom. But everyone should spend some time as a cop, it will temper your outlook on life.:)
It sounds like you live in a great place. I am between jobs at the moment, but have a few more years to go.
