Are you going to burn the stumps in the hole before you fill back up with dirt?
A lot of what you are doing is very similar to what I'm doing with my place. Fencing, shelter, clearing land, improving pasture, fixing equipment, and not getting anything done on my house.
My current strategy for my land is to keep it mowed where I've already cleared it. The more I mow it, the more the grass takes over. When I let an area go for a year, the saplings took over and they where thicker then before I cleared that area!!!
Then I work my way along the edges of my cleared areas with my backhoe, and take out the smaller trees that come out quick and easy. This opens up the bigger trees. Some I'm keeping, some will come out. Others seem to just fall over when we have a big storm!!
I put everything into a burn pile, and when it's wet out, I set it on fire. The ash and dirt that always ends up in the pile gets hauled to my low areas, and where I have erosion problems. I'll add a few sacks of concrete to create a dam inside the ditch, fill it up, compact it, and spread some seed. In a few months, its impossible to see where that ditch used to be.
My current fencing project will give me 27 acres of 2x4 horse fence. I can't explain how happy I will be to not have electric fence any more!!!!
