Yeah I had the video loaded up and set for 8 am since yesterday. And when the storms rolled in I thought about changing the title. Storms last night were the first test but didnt phase it.

I watched most of the video on YouTube last night before going to bed. Did you film how they catch their goats, or their handling facility?

My biggest challenge with my goats right now is catching them. I'm slowly building a chute that I can force them into, and then create something to hold them in place when we need to treat them, or ear tag them. And mostly, so we can pull the ones we want to sell, and put them in a holding pen until that happens.

I would love to get a drone shot of their barn area. What they have done is pretty slick, using g existing buildings as corners and boundaries for a couple interconnected fence and gate areas. I tried to draw it out, but didnt do it justice. They have done multiple changes as they saw opportunity for improvement to the flow. But what they have is really impressive. It was an old family farm that hadn’t been worked in a couple decades. So there was some infrastructure but not much that lent itself to raising a hundred or so goats.

Owning and taking care of livestock is a 24 hr. job ! The dogs seem to have found their forever home and enjoying the outdoor life !

Does your dr. watch your channel !!! Your like most of us.....things have to get built ! I do think that working helps in getting back to normal quicker. Hope your shoulder is getting better.

I think the dogs fit in here very well. Neighbors might not. There has been a lot of coyote pressure the last few days and Ayi is barking thru the night. I think the yotes are probing to see if they can get to the goats. We’ve found scat within 100 yds of the pen.

My Dr is a good guy who understands that I have stuff that I have to do. He was very frank with me and said don’t f0@& it up. Second surgery is not as good as a first surgery. I’m trying to live within the limits , but it isnt easy.
I was climbing up under the hood of the tractor yesterday and fell. Landed straddle on the brush bar. Didn’t hurt my arm. Didn’t rack myself , break tail bone or rupture anything. My back is a little sore but thats all.

I work from home most days so keeping an eye on the animals isn’t difficult. I like getting out there in the morning and getting everything started. Make sure they have feed and water and check on them. We split the evenings between different tasks on the farm We are building out the infrastructure a bit to make it easier to deliver the water. Planning tonput in at least one more yard hydrant by the main barn. But I might go ahead and put in another across the driveway to make it easier to water the animals on that side

Eddie, off topic and slightly odd flex in sharing advice here, but have you ever looked at any of Temple Grandin's research/work on cattle behavior & livestock handling facilities?

In the latter portion of her career Dr. Grandin has pivoted and gained a good bit of social popularity as an advocate for individuals on the autism spectrum.

Underpinning that success is a very successful career as a research & functional animal behaviorist in the commercial livestock industry.....with a good bit of her research devoted to designing higher efficiency livestock chute systems for slaughterhouses. I'm not suggesting it's worth a deep deep dive, but given the intelligence of goats there might be something in her publications that would be worth skimming for ideas:

- Dr. Grandin: Resume
- Her website

I've worked my fair share of catching up skittish herd/flock animals (kangaroos/wallabies, ostrich, flamingos, emus & and a smattering of hooved species) - as I'm sure you know, sometimes the smallest things can make a huge difference in making the process easier. (y)
