I have a similar structure from American Steel. I see a lot of them in WI.

Last night they stayed till 11, getting the purlins on. I imagine they get paid per job so they are trying to make up for lost time.
The metal sits on the dirt. It’s galvanized and the soil drains pretty well. But goats go to the bathroom anywhere and all the time. Time will tell how well it holds up, but I’ve seen many carports like that, still hooding up a decade or so later.
The crew is three younger guys. 20’s-30’s. Hard working and good attention to detail.

It’s 8:30 at night. I’m gonna go inside soon. I’ve been watching the progress. They are putting purlins on the overhang framing. Watching all the little things that they have done, I am really glad I hired this out.
That doesn’t mean I wont try to tackle some more big things in the future, butI’ve been impressed with their knowledge and work. All siding is complete. Tomorrow will be roof, roll doors, and trim.

And I think I’ll be able to get my big tractor under the over hang to store a roll bail or two of hay.

I prefer vertical siding instead of horizontal, but horizontal probably helps give it strength.

Horizontal cost less. For vertical they have to install purlin-like bands to give strength. I went with vertical roof to avoid water sitting on the roof every time it rained. I played with the quote generator in dozens of configurations making a list of my must haves and my wants and even gold plated the Cadillac just for fun… and then asked the sales guy. Trying to find the sweet spot for size and height and features. Some materials come in standard sizes so odd lengths or widths require customization and cost extra. Started looking at a 16x20. Then noticed 16x24 was cheaper. Increased siding gauge added about 10-20% depending on the site. On my building, vertical would have added $1157.
That would have put me at $16K. Hard “No”.

Paid and done and gone.
I am very happy with the way it came out.
They cleaned up but Im sure Ill find more than enough bits of metal, to make it worth my time to roll the magnet over it for an hour tonight.

That's going to be life changing!!!!

I'm looking forward to your posts on what you do for lighting, water and storage. Lots of work ahead of you to get it all just right.

Metal barns like that are just so economical vs a full pole barn or foundation/stick frame.

Looks great, congratulations. I know you built a lovely home that we all followed along with, but your property never felt complete. It needed a proper barn. Shame its only for goats, haha.

So there is nothing in the ground? Nothing to anchor it? Do you get any tornadoes in your part of the country? I'm sure it must be fine, but I'd think something like that would be at risk in high winds.
