The Tick strikes again.
We got some good news two days ago. She had preliminary GI appointment. They scheduled for endoscopy and colonoscopy on same day next week. She had H pilori GI infection a few months back and They are looking at possibility that there was damage from that to stomach. When we left the Dr office she was very down
But when we got home there was a measage from her regular Doctor. She tested positive for IGE antibody reaction to Alpha-gal. Allergy to red meat. It is actually not just meat. It is anything from 4 legged animal
All mammals except great apes and humans have a carbohydrate in their body and when a tick bites them and ingests this sugar molecule, it can then bite a human and inject it into them. It gets into their bloodstream and triggers an allergic response, making them allergic to that sugar molecule. So if they eat anything that has that, they get sick. Some people can go into anaphylaxis. Jello, gell caps and capsules are made from gelletan which comes from animal products. Many medicines including some that were prescribed to her are processed with animal products. She was eating yogurt and immediately vomiting. Cant eat dairy
She stopped eating all red meat products and is starting to bounce back and is holding food.

Wow, hate to hear this, especially in a young person. I have heard of that tick-related syndrome but never knew of anyone who got it until now. Apparently it’s mostly connected with the Lone Star tick (which we have loads of here). It’s a miracle nobody in my family has gotten something from ticks, as much as we get bit. Best wishes for your daughter. Knowing what triggers the reactions and symptoms is a major victory, now hopefully she can adjust.
