my hydraulic 3 pt hitch creeps down when in neutral. yesterday I was pulling a single bottom plow with my farmpro 2420 when i broke the sheer pin in the plow. Now my lift goes down when in the neutral postion. It still goes up and down but, will not hold it location it creeps downward. Any advise.

Thanks

The usual cause for this is a damaged O ring on the lift piston inside the lift box under the seat. It is possilbe to raise the lift highe enought that the o ring can come out of the bar, forcing it back in can damage it. it will work, but cannot hold the pressure. It is not too bad a job, but you will have to drain the oil. you can access the piston by removing the cap, it has teh plastic knob under and in front of the seat. to do this you may have to pull the cover off the gearbox. since Farm Pro offeres parts and labor if you are still under warranty, you might want to take it to your dealer for service.

Hello bluechip,

You was correct about my problem. The O-ring was broken.

My dealer told me it was under warrenty and he would fix it. He said it was common problem. The only problem was it would cost me a $100.00 dollars to pick it up and a $100.00 to bring it back. Being he is over 70 miles away I can under stand the cost. But, instead he gave me the parts and I did the repairs myself.

When I pulled the 3 point hitch assembly of I was surprised to see a chocolate milk colored thin oil in the rear end.

So i changed all the oil in the tractor and recently rolled a 100 hours over, and I pleased with My Farm Pro

Be sure to thread in the stop nut and jam nut on the lift control rod. (the one that kicks off the lift when it is fully raised). Sometimes these are set too long and will allow the piston to proturde out the cylinder past the O ring, when it goes down, the O ring is cut and you have what you had.
That is a common cause of o-ring failur on the lift piston.

Enjoy!
