There does seem to a huge mindset difference between city and country folk... I think the real reason for the disconnect is fewer people today have any tie to rural life...

Even growing up in a city... just about all my elders had parents or grandparents with farms... really none today.

The city mindset is to regulate, license and control with documentation up the wazoo... the country mindset is rugged individualism... putting it in simple terms.

There was a mid size tree that toppled a few years back and an entire neighborhood was on cell phones demanding something be done...

I had places to go and things to do so I pulled out my little Echo trim chainsaw and was on my way in a few minutes... someone actually came up to me and asked where I learned that?

We have a property that is being held for development... it is vacant and it is still required to pay for full garbage service...

wow, a large waste contracting company has there land fill in our town. We get to take ANYTHING there for free. I don't think I have ever smelled it. The income into the town cuts our taxes in half, love the dump.

Well we now have 'garbage police' , 3 students hired to ride with trucks to be sure the right trash goes into the correct bin.
One truck passes on Wednesday for the brown bin and Friday for the Blue or Black bin.

A city law mandates the bins be out of site ($100. fine) outside of a 12 hr time frame meaning we make 4 trips to the curb weekly.
We are in the country on a dead end with 75% of our residents being weekenders.
The city's answer is that as a 'good neighbor' we are should handle the neighbors bins.

OK, I understand that 12 or 16 colored bins outside of a condo complex on main street is an eyesore, but back in the woods???

Then the local schools and institutions that have paid custodians or other staff don't get fined? but we do?

The result that is developing is that folks are dumping things anywhere along the road or on vacant lots, and I predict will get worst.

It does get aggressive... prior to Waste Management we had backyard service going back 75 years...

No more... it is curbside with time constraints.

One was cited because his cart was damaged and told to leave it out and it would be exchanged... the exchange did not happen until the following day and you guessed it... he got cited for not promptly removing the cart... I think he fought it in principal and he lives on a private street so how can he be cited when it is not a public road?

I saw this thread a few times before I decided to read it. I expected it to be about a raccoon or something digging through your trash. You really do have Trash Inspectors! LOL, I learned something today. :)

Sometimes the best way to go after such an issue is to watch those who passed the law and those who are in charge of enforcement. Do not mean the low lever person who is writing the ticket but the top of the agency. They have houses and they have businesses: am not talking about any physical threat nor damage! But if they have a business that sells to the public or such the need good image, let it be know you will not buy there and ask others to boycott. Watch them for violations of the law and see if they are fined. Seriously go by the business or house with camera rolling with date and time on the screen and record any violation and when you have more than a single event go to the press and present your case.

I totally agree some of our government is out of control from some locals to states to the federal and we have a responsibility to revolt against it: we can do so by getting decent people with a brain to run and working to get them elected. Then get out and vote. I pray we never have a need for this country to take up arms against one another but if the decent people do nothing it will happen just as it has in other countries but most likely the war will be lost by then.

Where I live we have very reasonable taxes but for real reasons, we do not expect the government to be our parents and care takers. We have in the last few years many from highly taxed areas have retired here. Guess what, they want sidewalks on all roads, even rural roads, they want police everywhere, they want and want and then the locals will say do you not understand what will happen to the taxes you move for will happen here? The idea of cause and effect has been lost, people just do not think any more. sad

I grew up in a class one rubbish site and have to maintain credits to manage it. Some classes I take are on the recycler's end of things. Some inspector s have no clue. I'd think a hospital should be exempt from recycling organic waste. There's more crooks in the recycle business as there are in govt. I agree most organics should be recycled but possibly contaminated items need to be rid of. You should talk to the state about your concerns. Mfgs in Mississippi have to recycle 20 to 25 percent of their waste if possible. Too bad you don't have a single stream mrf to send it to.
