My first problem with the new machine! OH well!

As I sit here looking over the New DK40 on day two I realized just how small and dinky my current snow blower is and am now faced with the problem of selling it and buying a new and wider one with a hydraulic activated chute. Any one know of any good offers on where to get a decent price on a 7 ft wide one? I guess going up in size has its drawbacks!

Erskine attachments is one place that has 7' snow blower attachments. There are both single and double augur types. How big is the one you have now?

What size is your dinky snowblower? I had a 68 inch on my ck27. When I put that on the dk50 it REALLY blows snow. I can't bog that tractor down with that snowblower. It exactly just covers the wheel tracks.

depends on how wide the blower is, if its only a few inches too small, you can add metal wings to it to make it as wide as the rear tires. Another problem is how heavy duty the old blower is. My old blower was too light to use on my 28 HP tractor...i kept bending steel on it. no way i would use it on a 45 HP machine.

It is a buhler 60 inch and I can barely reach the manual spot adjust handle from the seat of the DK. Maybe just adding some wings and a home made hyd adjuster would work. The weight I think is someplace around 475 LBS but I didn't look at the owners manual for a few years.

My old Allied/Farm King/Buhler is quite heavy being a 73". It too, is too small really for my tractor. To get around this I added a couple of wings - each giving about three and half inches each side. It does the trick but I would be much better off with a 7' blower (84") but at around $5,000 new, I really cannot justify one yet. If you can get by for now, check out the ads during the summer months as I am sure you will get a great buy then.
Incidently, my wings cost $50 and are 12 gauge I think (0.110" thick steel) and are plenty strong enough to do the job.

I guess the questions I have now are 1) How much more can be safely added by the use of wings? and 2) If I was to buy a new snow blower what size would other DK40 owners recommend ?

By looking at the tractor it sure looks like it could handle a 7ft blower but a 6ft would cover the distance of the tires.

it also depends on how wet or deep the snow is. I was told not to go too far past the width of the tires set at their widest. You could technically put a 9' blower back there, but it wouldnt move much snow.

I have a 7' blower on my loader mount unit, but its powered by pto powered hydraulic system. The best bet is to ask the manufacturer or salesman. that way if it doesnt work, its their fault.
