My dog's not doing well

I'm also still cleaning up fur from my Lab.

Sorry for the way this turned out I’ve buried quite a few dogs over the years and it’s never easy. But it’s part dog ownership. Their life cycle is a lot shorter than ours. But they sure do contribute a lot to us while they are here.

I've lost quite a few "good friends" in the forty years out here. This post really tears at my heart. Thank God - your family is there with him. You will soon only remember the good times.

It is good to know how you loved and treated him. In his final hours he will remember you for all your love and the good times together.

Buried several of my best friends over many years. Never easy to do. Sorry for your loss. But they bring so much joy while they are with us. I think it was the queen who said "Greif is the price we pay for love". I have grieved deeply many times as payment for the joy and love they gave me. You will need time to heal. But don't wait too long to get another puppy, as they are very helpful with the healing process. All the best!!

Well.... I got home and he's still with us and has been eating again. This morning he ate some bacon and eggs and took his med's. He's all skin and bones and it's sad to see how unhappy he is. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but he just sleeps and mopes around. Occasionally he gets a little spring in his step, but mostly he just looks pitiful and stands around, not knowing what to do with himself.

He's still on prednisone, amoxicillin and mycophenolate Mofetil. The last med is an immuno suppressor.

I'll talk to the vet and see if there are any other options, but it sounds like it's autoimmune, chronic and fatal.

One of the most difficult things of pet ownership is knowing when to let them go. We have rescued many many dogs. Most live a long life with excellent veterinary care from my wife. Todays animal care is as good as human care. But cancer and immune disease happens and the decision is ultimately square on our shoulders. It is the hardest thing we do for them.

yeah I agree with scootr his situation started a over month ago keeping him going is torture at this point. I feel your pain but end his misery.
