I've got a BX1500 (just a light instead of a gas gauge)..

I use small PLC's at work, so I thought this would be a cool pet project. The display on this unit can be programmed to give all sorts of information based on inputs.
My wish list is:
-Tachometer
-Speedometer
-RPM based hour meter
-Voltmeter
-fuel gauge with low fuel alarm

Anybody want to add to my list?

I fiquired it would fit in nice where the fuel light is!

I think an Amp meter is a good choice.

The hard part is the array of sensors. Sensors are where the meat of the project lies.

It has a real-time clock built-in, so that is no problem.

It has lots of digital inputs, but only only 4 analogue inputs without adding expansion modules and alot of sensors are analogue devices.

Tire pressure!? hmm I can do either tire pressure or ashtry level but not both!

Intake manifold pressure (for when to change the air filter).
Oil filter pressure differential.
Cylinder wall temp.

Does your PLC have the ability to store the last known data? Caterpillar's system records all these variables and then some.

When the mechanic comes along they can see how the engine ran and where any problems may have begun. One mechanic told me that for the big scrapers and now for the excevators, the mechanic can can actually run the engine using all the recorded data. It's a real active replay of the machine's operation.

Now if we could get them to drive themselves and thus they would miss the garden chair that we backed into last week...

I just retired from from a company that used a lot of AB equipment. I was invoved with the Feild Service end of the business. My list is like a customer want list. Just keeping adding tems and we will add up the cost for the upgrades and installation. Have fun with your project. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Hope you still find time for SEAT TIME . /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm thinking that I'll need more processing power to handle all this!

maybe a bigger tractor to run the generator to power it!
