Thank you. Like a dummy, I'd forgotten all about that function; wish I'd remembered it last Saturday. I've been in a habit of turning this computer off at night, and back on the next morning. This morning when it booted up, it let some pop-ups in, added that Lycos thing (whatever that is), etc., BUT at the same time it was downloading that "critical update" from Microsoft. After installing the update, of course, I restarted the computer again. The last couple of days, every time I restart the computer, it pops up a dialogue box to install "Windows Q329048 Set Up Wizard" (whatever that is) and I've just been clicking on "Next" and letting it install that. Well, this morning when I restarted and that box popped up, I just clicked on "Cancel" and everything's been working fine all day.

So now I can't decide whether to go back to one of those restore points (prior to last Saturday) or whether to just leave well enough alone. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif And I guess I'm going to have to find time to go to Microsoft's website and see what a Q329048 Set Up Wizard is. Naturally I don't know whether it had anything to do with my problems, but since I didn't let it install today; no more problem. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif YET!

Yep, I had 98SE on my last computer and liked it, sure did not like ME very much, and when XP is working right, I like it. Of course, with all of them, as well as most other software, there are a lot of capabilities that I never learned, never have any use for, etc. I liked Windows 3.1 best myself; it was simpler, and I knew how to just format the hard drive and start over when I needed to. Of course, I wan't using the Internet back then, though.

Try as many points as you like! XP spans back and forth thru these "snapshots" with ease.

I enjoy tinkering on computers. Kinda become the neighborhood geek.

I had too many crashes with 98se, for me to like it. I like XP best of them all, and have had them all. But, I don't like restore that well. I have the Go Back from the Norton System Works 2003, had it with 2002 also. I think it works much better. I don't think it goes back as far, but works much smoother.

Like everything else, it had it's problems too. Will say most of the 98SE troubles I have seen were related to either the vast amount of junkware PC manufacturers bundle with their units, or malicious contamination by AOL. I could go on about AOL, but momma always said if you can't say something good, say nothing.

Hey Dieselsmoke , would you happen to know how to get a virus out of my system/volume? A pop up from my virus program keeps telling me it's there ,but when i run 2 different virus programs, neither one picks it up. I had this happen a while back and i was able to somehow get rid of it. But i can't remember how i did it and it is driving me nuts popping up every few minutes. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
