Oh, the utter despair. I broke a blade on my JD lx6. When I took it to the dealer for what I thought would be a $40. blade replacement, they gave me the bad news. Gearbox is cracked. more to fix it than it's worth....($1,400.00 piece of equipment). Soooo...is there an aftermarket gearboxI could slap on there? Please tell me I can revive this incredible tool.

Not sure, but I lit a nice smelling candle to the "gearbox god" and danced a dance and sacrificed two virgins. It should be brand spanking new in the morning. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When they say the gearbox is cracked...are the talking about the housing of the box? That might be weldable...or even JB weld might work. However, if that cutter was ran for any length of time with one blade, it probably is torn up inside pretty badly. That unbalanced condition could have wiped out any bearing surfaces...just a guess there.

I'm really surprised that Deere cutter broke on you. Must be one of those Chinese castings.

Anyway, get us some more information. Deere most likely buys that gear box. You might be able to buy directly from the supplier, or try a price on another gear box. King Kutters are relatively inexpensive. Maybe buy a box from them.
