I replaced faulty generators many years ago on tractors that I owned. It was real simple, although I have forgotten the exact details. I started with a used GM alternator. modified the attachment brackets to suit. At that time the GM alternators had a battery connection wire and a 2 wire harness plug. This is what I don't quite remember. One wire went back to the amp/volt meter (battery wire) and the other two ( harness pair??) were twined together. IIRC the pair that got twined together had to be foot or more in length. All that I know for sure is that it worked for many years. I am sure there is someone here that has done this as well and can straighten out the details. This may seem obvious and you may already know but the battery has to be changed to a 12V. Watch out for whether or not it is negative grounded. Good luck.
