my 26 year old john deere push mower just wont die

True story.
My mom bought me my push mower back in 1986 ayear after she left my dad. When she left my dad and got custudy of me , my sister and my brother, i of course had responsibilities and she bought the push mower to cut the grass. It was two cycle (still is lol). There was so many times i put straight gas in there with no oil to try and blow it up but would not die. I still use the **** thing today. I just turned 36 years old on january 24. I was out in the barn today organizing some crap and was moving stuff around including the mower i used when i was goin into the 6th grade and thought to myself "Why wont this **** thing seize up so i have an excuse to buy something more light weight and easier to use?". For gods sake, there was plenty of times i ran the thing dry. Its been running for almost 30 years and never taken care of. no tune ups or nothing and fires right up every season even on old stale gas. Probably has seen 2 or 3 different plugs but no carb tune up or cleanin. freakin weird if you ask me

thats what i was thinking. i was thinking of shooting it with my desert eagle while its running and putting on video to post here. Just dont know if i would feel to good about that becuase it has been with me since brand new. would almost feel bad like putting down the dog in the movie old yeller

I've never seen a two cycle lawn mower and I've been cutting grass since the sixties. A neighbor did have a green thing way back that sounded like he had mounted a chainsaw motor on it. Exhaust came out underneath and it was the weirdest sounding thing.

That was a Lawn Boy,, also very good mowers..

You say it is a 2 cycle?? I dunno.. that thing is getting pretty old,, maybe could be a 4 or even 6 cycle by now

Anyway it sounds like an oldie but goodie..you ought to mix up a little oil in that gas once in a while, and make the old fella feel a little better..

That must be a good year. I have a 1986 JD sub compact tractor that still runs perfectly. It was used mostly to mow, but I've also skidded logs with it, hauled lots of dirt and even towed my boat around the yard and it was never treated well. It went 20 years between oil changes once (when my dad had it!!!). The only work it's ever had was 2 tune-ups, tire tubes and a new belt for the funky belt driven PTO setup. I keep thinking I should sell it, but its not really worth anything and after 30+ years I would feel bad just getting rid of it. They built them to last back then... I highly doubt any machine these days would last as long. You should hang onto it, it's an antique after all!

you guys are right. i just may occupy myself this weekend by taking it apart to give it its first true tune and clean. It smokes like **** though for some reason and has for the past 10 years.
