My 1601D Yanmar won't Idle?

Hello! Guys
Haven't been around in awhile so it's good to get back and read some of the new post.
Anyway for some reason my Yannie won't stay idleing anymore,I either have to keep the foot or hand throttle open a little to keep it running.
I haven't run it in about 2 months and it idled fine then! So does anyone
have any ideas as to whats wrong or how to adjust? Oh! all Maintanance was done just afew months back and its got only about 936hrs total on her.

Hello Mike,

How's your back? (Silly question?)

I'm not sure why it won't idle, but usually its fuel or air-fuel filter related...that is if the throttle linkage is adjusted correctly. At what RPM does it die? I often use 'Power Service' additive that does wonders for tractors that have been sitting awhile. Keeps the fuel system clean and the cetane helps control moisture in the fuel....Don't have to tell you about the high humidity down here.

That sounds normal. The fully closed position on the hand throttle normally kills the engine. You set the idle wherever you want it, (at least on most Yanmars).

does it start right back up after cutting out? That is, does it seem to be starved for fuel or air like Mark asked? I had this on my 1601, turned out that part of the fuel filter was blocked with some waxy stuff...

My neck and back are about the same are alittle worse,I just decided I couldn't give up,I was down in the dumps pretty bad for awhile there. Anyway tractor starts right back up and runs fine and does have sta-bil in fuel but if I let off either throttle it dies every time-it didn't do this before and i'm not really sure about the RPMs,they're pretty low though.

I know its not normal as it would run fine by just pulling back on the hand throttle just a little and started and idled real well without touching either
throttle,like getting off tractor to move something. Now I must hold the hand throttle back to keep it running and ever time I let off it dies otherwise it runs with no spit or sputter and sound good.

Yes it starts back up always but I will check fuel filter for any particals.
Hand throttle seems to spring back and shut tractor down and not ease back to idle postition.
I tried backing off the adjustment linkage nut just a little and it will idle but then won't cut off with hand throttle or key?

How do you normally shut the engine off? I suspect you just need to tighten the hand throttle friction disk.

OR, replace the disk.& adjust linkage

Norm IS right, just follow your throttle lever down to the bottom & tighten the nut that holds it on a little, it will stop the creep momentum it has and your yani will idle

What is the friction disc? I have adjusted the throttle linkage nut a little in both directions just forward ofthe exhaust manifold on right hand side of tractor.Either it runs and idles and won't shut down or won't idle and shuts down when throttle is released.
Mark777 does Hoyes site had a diagram of this disc or anyone esle just so I
may identify it? Maybe in the 1501s engine breakdowns? I'll go look right now.

Thats what I want to figure out how to do! does this disc wear down,come loose, over time and vibration and need occasional adjustments?
