so we have been trying to dig holes with the auger and that thing is a joke!! i spent 3 hours on 7 two feet deep holes, this thing will not dig.

I even had my woman on the tractor and i was literally jumping on the top of the auger boompole trying to add down force and it wont dig. Our dirt is not even that hard, i can use a post hole digger no problem.

i called the dealer and they said it was most likely operator error, but they came out anyways and were very suprised that i was right, it does nothing. Just spins and spins, even tried water for some cutting lube.

Am i missing something or are these only good in sand and snow???

kinda dissapointed that i even bought the auger

If your dealer came out & checked & it still doesn't work ... :confused3:

I mean, if the auger rotates & your 3PH is free to drop, the darn thing should dig.

Did you check the auger bit's teeth or curly-cue tip? If it has teeth, & the teeth have been bent to where they are straight up & down (vertical) rather than angle, that can make them not dig. I'd still expect some digging due to the sheer weight of the auger, bit & 3PH, just not as good as if the teeth are properly angled for digging.

Edit: I will add, I've been installing a loooong fence over the past year, & recently the dirt we've been augering turned from sandy-ish "normal' dirt to incredibly sticky gumbo clay ... & my auger still digs right thru it. I actually have to lower the 3PH very slow, because the auger will dig into that clay so quick if I let it, that it gets jammed into the clay ... & then I have to remove the PTO shaft & manually back the auger bit out. That's some hot, sweaty work right there.

OK, one more thing ... Every time I use the auger, I do have to adjust most of my 3PH's linkage adjustments so the 3PH can actually lower into the ground enough. If I don't adjust them, meaning if I leave the 3PH adjusted to where it is normally for say bush hogging, when I connect the auger & lower it, it digs down only about 6" - 12" & has then hit the normal bottom of the 3PH's travel, & of course simply won't/ can't dig any deeper than that. Check that out, too ... Making small adjustments to your 3PH's geometry makes a big difference out away from the 3PH where the auger bit is.

the teeth are fine, they are sending out a new auger head to try i guess. They were just as baffeled as i was. it was funny, the guy who came to help me said the service manager was laughing saying it was a case of operator error and to go show the Newbie how to use the auger properly. little does he know, im not retarded.

I know it was not the safest thing to do, but i am fairly nimble and i felt mostly safe.

after that i got my forklift and put a dana 60 rear axle on the forks and tried to set it on top of the boom and it still would not dig.

OK, I will guess that your 3PH linkage needs to be adjusted to allow the 3PH to drop all the way to the depth you're wanting. I have to adjust mine a lot, way beyond where I'd think is necessary, to get the 3PH travel to where it can dig my 36" deep holes.

Also, check out where I edited my first response post.

umm i cant get past 8" on my current 2 holes i have been working on. maybe ill take some vids

EDIT: maybe i am missing something or doing this wrong, the only adjustment that i have is on the lower right hand 3pt arm where it connects the the hydraulic arms of the 3pt hitch, the top part of the auger just hooks up where the normal upper link would go and is hard mounted there is not adjustment.
