Kubota MX5800HST w/ R4s. I'm getting my rears ballast filled but they asked if I wanted the fronts slimed. Pros/cons?

R4/industrial tires are six ply or greater.

I cannot think of any conditions in Northern Virginia likely to cause punctures through six plies.

I would not slime front tires.

Slime is to protect from small punctures/leaks such as a thorn. So it would totally depend on what type of vegetation you are running over.

well maybe honey locust thorns or hardware from negligent landowners.... but agree that slime is wrong material to ballast tires. liquid or foam if you must but don't see any reason to do it unless to solve a problem up front.
rears of course make sense, highly recommend for utility use

We've got plenty of nasty thorns & briars but I wouldn't think they would puncture a tire. It's the Autumn Olives, Locusts, Hawthornes, & jagged rocks that concern me :) No nails or construction debris, but I'm still on the fence.

good point front tires are so much easier to deal with regardless of fill or no fill
rears of course a different story but (for me) a must. i do appreciate the mobile ag tire fix it guys instead of hauling that loaded rear wheel.

i'd say pass on the slime option. & if you feel the need for more wt up front, maybe consider a ballast, but other than that, let it go probably have had 3 or 4 ft tire flats in the many decades of my rough (but not commercial) operation. up front, if the treads are decent, should be trouble free

I have many locusts.
I detest Slime, but it is the only way I can keep air in my JD 19HP lawn tractor front tires.
I know I should just get my tires foam filled instead.

Provide some detail on your lawn tractor tires.

On such a light machine I doubt the tires are six ply.
How much tread did they have new? now?

Hate slime, tireject is a far superior product and water soluble for clean up. See the you tube tutorial.

Thanks guys, going to pass on the slimed fronts. Still getting filled rears though :)

We're talking about two different things here guys. Slime in the fronts is for flat protection. Filling the rears is about weight. Only similarity is they both involve tires. :)

So they said the'd slime the fronts for free. Should I have them do it?

If you do, you'll hafta take a tire off for some reason and hate dealing with the stuff.

If you don't you'll have slow leaks and wish you had.

That's how it works for me anyway..... :)

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. 6 of one, half dozen of another...
