How cool/cold should my cab be in my MX5400 with the air-conditioning on cold/full?

I was gonna attach pics, but believe me it was hot and I was sweating in my cab. 91 degrees outside with full sun. Sweating in my shirt. Cab, 94 to 97 degrees. When you hold your hand to the air duct, it does not feel cold. I understand that when the sun comes thru the glass, it can be like an oven in there, but I actually feel cooler when I step out of the cab, than I do inside. I figure I paid the extra $8K to get the cab with air-conditioning, I at least should not have a sweat soaked shirt.

I just want to know if this is normal, or if it should be considerably cooler. Do I need to send it in for warranty work. I bought the tractor December 2020, and it has just over 140 hours.

The pics are of a day out bush hogging on flat terrain.

I hope this gives you enough info. Should my cab be cooler? ? ?

It should work as well or better than the a/c in most cars. Call dealer, arrange to get tractor into the shop. Bought new in 2020? Should still be under warranty.

It should be cold... I have to turn mine down if a cloud passes at 95 outside

Yeah, that ain't right. Air is blowing from the duct? Can you see the condenser on your cab and get a temp gun on it to see if it's working?

My M4 takes a good 20 minutes or so to cool all the way down but after that I can't keep it on max even with me and the dog in the cab on a hot GA day.

Most automotive A/C's should read around 50⁰ F with a thermometer probe stuck in the dash vent. I think your system is malfunctioning.

Dirt, dust an chaff in the condenser and/or evaporator can be a culprit,
as well as AC issues.

Awesome! ! ! I thought I was going crazy. I'll check for the dust and chaff in the condenser/evaporator and do a general cleaning under there.

At least I know I should be feeling cold air.

Thanks folks,

john

My Kioti's A/C has held up (discounting the fan issue) for 675 hrs and going on 5 years now. Unlikely that yours has any issue other than what Lou mentioned.

Does your A/C button light up when depressed? I'm thinking that, if it's anything like my Kioti's, that it should. If so, I'd make sure that it actually is lighting up: yeah, seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes one just loses track of certain things in the heat of the battle...

For some added excitement add some mice to the top of your cab and let them stench things up. Nothing like a hot day in a cab with no A/C* AND with mouse stench! * I had a bad connector on the wires to my HVAC fan motor (problem was obvious with no air being pushed)- of all days to find out it had to be a sweltering one!

Is radiator/condenser free of chaff & dust? It's possible heater coolant control valve is allowing hot coolant to flow through it. Next step would be to check low & high AC refrigerant pressures.

Could the inside A/C cabin filters be plugged up?

It might be a silly suggestion but do you have to push in on the switch to turn the compressor on? I do on my tractor. Otherwise it would just blow hot air.

check the following.

1- discharge temp should be as low as 48 to 55.
2- Condenser coil should be clean as it adds to head pressure issue and lack of cooling.
3- Evap coil or inside coil should be clean as well, check the filter if any.
4-locate two hoses that go to the evap coil in the cab, the smaller uninsulated line is low pressure liquid line and the bigger dia should be your gas/vapor line. The liq line is always hot /warm and the vapor(low pressure vapor) line leaving the evap coil is cold. You should see clear condensation on the vapor line. if the line is cool to touch but not sweating then you most likely have low refrigerant that is caused by some leaks... no good, need to find the leak and repaired before adding refrigerant.
5- look at the magnetic clutch on the compressor to see if it is engaged, if not then you don't get cooling as a low pressure cut out switch in the system triggers and stop the clutch from engaging so you will not burn a compressor.

Just a few things to check. report back so we can disect it further.

i freeze my butt off on mine when it was 106F outside. i cant begin to say how greatful that my wife talked me into a cab tractor back in 2010.

hope you get it worked out.

Yep, I have the controls set correctly inside the cab. I'm in town on business until Friday, noon. As soon as I get back I'll check all the suggestions. And yeah, it is HOT inside, not even cool.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I can't wait to get home to check these things out.

I bet your AC radiator is clogged with debris.
Dirt, dust an chaff in the condenser and/or evaporator can be a culprit,
as well as AC issues.
x2^
Bush hogging and hay mowing clog AC radiators up and AC performance drops. If the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, it can require cleaning every few hours on hot days.
Same of course with engine radiator.

My M would blow hot air on AC or fan only positions. Turned out to be a stuck heater valve.
I put an inline ball valve on one of the heater hoses and that solved the problem.
I will open the valve come colder weather to turn the heat back on.
Before I cut the heater hose I tested it by clamping one the the hoses with a vise grip and sure enough, cool air started coming from the ducts.

I have the MX6000, it will plug up the air cleaners in a hurry bushhogging. Cab temp goes up almost instantly. Keep a compressor close and blow out the filters and you are back in business.

Today it was 99 degrees and my a/c is set at full a/c fan on 2 and it takes about a min to start getting cold. I also put the window tint film on the windows. Didn't do a real good job on covering the windows didn't do the bottom of the doors and left a little around the edges of the door but for the most part windows are covered and it sure made a difference, don't need a sun visor tint is 35. Don't bother my legs as cool air goes down. Highly recommend putting the window tint on your windows! Wonder if taping a furnace air filter over the vents inside of the hood would save some time and keep the regular air filters clean??? Yes?? No?? bad idea???

Probably not a great idea, last thing you want is a big piece of cardboard to come loose inside the engine compartment when it’s running at high RPM brush hogging:oops:

I honestly haven’t even looked at my AC system, there’s got to be some sort of pre filter I would imagine even if it’s just window screening.
