No. I am pretty sure it replaced one of the freeze plugs.

The glow plugs are in the head and go into the combustion chamber, they are not replaced by the block heater. The Kubota engines are some of the best cold starting engines that we have had for sale. They start on the coldest days without block heaters often after sitting in the cold for several months. For all the brands we sell as well as the other brands we take in trade they are ones we count on being able to start in the cold even well below 0 degree's!

If the coolant freezes it will push out to prevent the block from cracking.

Freeeze plugs are not actually meant to pop out if frozen, rather they are left over openings from the casting process. though it can work to save a block, it's an old wives tale that their main purpose is to save a block from freezing.

Their main real world purpose is to rot out and give headaches when replacing!:laughing:

I have used block heaters for years and they are way better than the hose heaters. Not sure you really need one, however since the MX5100 (at least mine) has a pre-heat function and Kubotas start really well in cold temps. I used to start my M8950 in the cold and damp weather of Maine winters and never had a problem.

I think I paid $65. So that's right on.
