I was BH today and somehow bent both arms on my MX5 tailwheel axle. The axle support tube and wheel seem to be ok.

How do I remove the vertical axle that holds the wheel onto the support tube? Is this even possible or will I have to purchase an entire support tube?

Thanks for any help offered,

Here are some pics of my bent tailwheel that I need to bend back into shape. Not sure if it's possible to remove the knuckle from the support.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks,

Wow, you must have really hit something hard with that!

From looking at the pictures, and on JDParts, it looks like you have to grind the weld off the washer on top to remove the tailwheel support (see attached diagram). Also, that part #5 in the picture (AW26200) list's for $165.00

Ouch, I also bent my arms on the MX5 wheel backing into the brush maybe hitting a tree but not that bad it still rolls well so not fixing it.

Man, you must have backed into something pretty good to put a bend in it like that. Oh well, get it apart and straighten it all out and it should be good as new.
You would think Deere had an easier way to assemble and disassemble that wheel without welding? My Howse has a thick washer on top and then a lynch pin to hold the shaft in.
Sure makes it easier for disassembly.
If you're going to get that apart, you might think about drilling a hole and tapping it on the top of that shaft. Then make/get a large washer so the bolt holds the assembly together in case that ever happens again?

I must have hung up on a root or something. Did not know I had damaged anything until I started noticing drag marks caused by the wheel being stuck sideways. I have had this cutter since year 2000 and this is the 1st and only problem I've encountered with it.

While looking at my own pics I've notice that there is an inward bend on the right rear side of the deckwall. I'm concerned that this could cause the blade to load up with grass etc more easily since there is less space between the blade and wall.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I hope to take the support tube/ wheel off today and drop it off at a welding shop. I'll post more pics after the repair is complete.

Why don't you just bend it back? Find a curb and make a left turn. I would propabaly remove the wheel element and start there with a long piece of pipe that fits around the legs of the tail. If you buy a new part don't forget to paint it....
