So we have proved it is not a Ontario law , it might be a safety infraction if it is part of bumper (which most truck receivers are not) and has broken sharp edges.........whooppe do ........... and no examples of EVER being enforced.

I imagine there is some safety regulations and laws on the books from the 1800's too,I just googled some ... I hear there is an obscure law in Oklahoma where It Is Illegal To Have A sleeping Donkey In Your Bathtub After 7pm ..........
in Ohio Oxford, It is unlawful for a woman to appear in public while unshaven. This includes legs and face.

Debating the hitch in or out is the equivalent of debating whether a women should shave her legs........its her choice.

From Ontario Highway Traffic Act R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 611

SAFETY INSPECTIONS
BODY WORK

1. (1) The body, sheet metal and equipment shall be inspected and tested for conditions hazardous to occupants, pedestrians or vehicles and,
(a) no bumper, fender or mudguard shall have been removed;
(b) each bumper shall be securely mounted;
(c) each mud flap, where applicable, shall be in position;
(d) no bumper, fender, molding or other part shall have a broken, bent or sharp edge that protrudes in such a way as to constitute a hazard to persons or vehicles;

Depending upon the government official conducting the inspection, a receiver hitch could be interpreted to violate this section of the Safety Inspection regulations.

Also, threads drift from the original subject all the time.

I agree with you, Chris. But then, vague regulations give the regulators lots of discretion/power over the regulated.

Since the thread has now deviated into regulations like mirrors and damaged body work that have nothing to do with hitches ……...here is one more obscure regulation found on google…

I wonder if the horse’s tail is allowed protrude beyond the length of its body if the horse does not need it consistently, and imagine those that would walk behind the horse and not see its *****. 
But then some states and cities are deciding to make laws to force horses to wear diapers…I wonder if those city folks are the same type as those that worry about hitches and not watching where they walk ?

Well it wasn't active for four days until you just brought it back. Lol

I've always wondered why threads are closed. I don't understand the reasoning. No one is forced to read a particular thread and there is an unsubscribe option. If people want to be difficult, ridiculous, or humorous let them go at it.

The only threads that get closed on this site are the ones that are too argumentative, rude, etc and where people keep going back to the same rude/argumentative posts even after the moderators prune the threads.

As a general rule, threads don't get closed around here.

If threads are closed every time no one has posted useful info for a few days, then if someone finds the thread later and wants to add something relevant they can't. The policy as it stands sounds appropriate to me. Overly moderated forums bug me. This place strikes a nice balance.
