Been getting quite a few of those calls. Most are from over seas claiming to be Microsoft tech support. Had a missed call on my cell. Was a local number so I called it back. Ended up sending the dude a screen shot of my call log, to prove his number called me first.
As with my landline, I always check to see who is calling before answering calls on my cell. If I don't recognize the caller I don't answer.

Wish that was a luxury for me. But as a service tech for a nation wide company, and the buisiness being specialized. I get calls from all over the country on a regular bases on my work cell. And company policy, is if it rings, it needs to be answered. It's a cheap flip phone, so if the call originates out of country, it still only shows a local number.

Local numbers, I answer, or call back on my personal cell. Regularly get calls from the kids using a friends cell, if there phone is dead ;)

Quite a few scammers are pirating someone's cell number using voice over IP.

Being a country with a relatively small population, our area codes are 02 (the entire State of NSW), 03 (the entire State of Victoria and Tasmania) and so on... 04 is assigned to every mobile phone in the entire country!

Basically, you can sort of figure out where a landline call is coming from but a mobile call could be from anywhere.

yeah, it's confusing to the majority of you... but it's our way. :)

Now that I am retired, I rarely carry my cell phone except when I go to town grocery shopping and then only because the wife usually calls for me to pick up something that she wants that isn't on the grocery list. If the wife is with me, it is a necessity just to find her when we are in a large store. Sometimes I think she watches me to catch me looking at something then breaks into a run to go hide somewhere. That is the majority of use I get from a cell. At home we don't answer if we see "unknown" on the caller ID or if we don't recognize the number, that seems to cut down on the scammer calls when you don't answer for a long time.
Used to PO me big time when we had to pay by the minute of usage and got a wrong number or scam call using up my minutes, now it is just annoying as he!!. I am sure glad the phone company started the unlimited minutes, what with 5 kids and 7 grandkids plus friends in several different states and foreign countries, the wife spends about 5 hours a day on the phone with them. Me I talk to 2 of my sisters about once a month and that is about it.

I am terrible at remembering to take my mobile phone with me; not a lot of calls anyway & never anything that needs to be answered right away.

However I always remember my mobile if I'm going to be working in my shop, chainsawing or doing tractor work. It's a lifeline if anything goes wrong.

I am currently winning 3 or 4 full expense paid vacations to "somewhere tropical" per day.

I mean really, how can anybody afford to take that many "free vacations"

I was getting phone calls, on the land line, from State Police saying i would be arrested if i didn't call the number in this message. We don't have State Police in this state and i'd think our State Patrol would know that. I got them over a week period, with the last being something like, 'you had better return this call or all i can say is good luck'. I thought that was very nice for a complete stranger to wish me good luck. :)

While I rarely get those nuisance calls now, the few I get are usually un intelligent as they seem to select folks with heavy foreign accents.
Where I live French is the main language (Quebec) and most nuisance calls are made by Haitians that have a heavy accent.
I generally simply mumble and grunt which then has them hang up.

If I have time.....I try to keep them on the line for as long as I can. I ask them lots of questions....interrupt their conversation and make them respond to me. Eventually.....they will hang up. If I don't have time......I just call them very derogatory names......they get very upset and either hang up or call me a name. I hope I ruined their day.....at least I feel better.

We have no landline phone number, just cell numbers. And with the email screening we get from Microsoft plus having Adblock on all our computers....let me tell you what a PLEASURE it is not be be bothered and/or bombarded with crap. And any calls or text messages on our cells we don't recognize are automatically deleted. I wish everyone had the privacy we enjoy !!
