What's the latest thoughts on Corn/pellets stoves? I mean, what brand is in favor now? I was looking at Corn Flame and I think it's multifuel. I really want to be able to burn either because we're surrounded by corn here and pellets got hard to get for a while last winter. I talking with some people on getting like floor sweeps and cleaning it. What's a good cleaner, that actually works? bjr

Think it all depends upon where you live and availibility. You can find stoves around here that burn either wood pellets or corn but you won't find any corn for fuel. Around here there is a lot of corn grown but almost all is sweet corn. Few farmers grow field corn for silage but that's it. Now wood is a different story. Only shelled corn around here is feed grade and more spendy that wood. Additionally with the push on for using corm for alcohol production, price of corn is going higher. Paid $165/T last yr for wood pellets.

Just noticed you're in Wa. Surprised you have shelled corn available in your area.

I have a quadra-fire wood/corn pellet stove. This will be the 5th season of use.We love it,we now heat or house for about $600 bucks a year.My home was built in 1994 and is 1631 sq.ft. on the main floor. The stove keeps the upstairs at 73 degrees and full basement at 50 degrees in the middle of a michigan winter.coobie

Quadrafire Mt. Vernon. The new version will burn several biomass fuels other than corn and wood such as various seeds and grains. Automated of course and a whole house heater. Myself- I moved to soapstone this year and burn cordwood.

In our part of the nation wood pellets have never been hard to come by as long as you are not silly enough to wait until the middle of the winter to buy them. Just as with cordwood there is a proper time to stockpile the year's supply. It was about a month ago.
