Mulch Kit for 62C

Has anyone purchased/used this kit. Just saw the price of $185 and wonder what the kit consists of, and if it's worth the $$. Thanks.

I"ve been thinking of making one out of sheet metal...I believe it's just a plastic plug and bolts.

I spoke with dealer and was told that kit consists of discharge cover, internal baffle and three mulching blades.

I got one last summer for my 2305 and the thing kicks butt. It has a two piece underneath baffle that is huge. It also has 3 mulching blades and a plug or a hook for the end.

For me it'll mulch up 2 weeks summer growth and hardly leave a spec behind. The baffles really do their job. I've been more than pleased with it. I expected it to leave behind a lot of grass poop if I let it grow to much but it just eats it up.

For some reason I'm thinking I paid $175 but that's close enough to your price so your're probably right.

I have the similar kit on the 54" on my X540. Works beautifully as long as you don't try to mulch wet, thick grass. Most of the clippings are less than 1/2" long and disappear into the lawn completely.

My biggest problem is leaves collecting in front of the deck and being pushed around or onto the deck itself. It's hard to balance deck height so leaves can go underneath properly but not to cause the mulched material to fly out from all around the deck. With grass clippings this isn't particularly noticeable but leaves don't chop that finely so pieces fly everywhere. I actually take the mulch kit/blades off and switch to bagging with high-lift blades in the fall.

I too have just gotten the mulching kit for my 54c and it seems to work well. One of the reasons I got it was in the hopes it would handle all the leaves I am now accumulating. I haven't ran it yet over areas that are heavily covered so I can't report yet on it's effectiveness but others on here have reported it works well. It did seem to do a pretty good job on mulching grass though. As previously said, the kit consists of 3 mulching blades (they are actually a little different than the orig blades), 2 plastic baffles that take up a lot of the extra space underneath the deck and an optional metal attachment that you can use or not use to prop open the vent cover to provide some extra clearance when traveling on uneven ground.
