Does anyone use a muck spreader with vertical beaters ? How do you like the spread pattern, shred of straw, spreading width and consistency ?

I'm thinking of cutting up two old horizontal beaters (one is bent due to foreign object, cut in the middle where the bend is) to make 4 vertical beaters to spread a bit wider.

Any advice ?

Most modern units are vertical beaters so you don't have to drive over and compact your entire field. I'm not sure of the spacing or if the beaters intermesh or what. I think I'd like it just because that last bit of manure is a pain to get out of a regular spreader unless you're going uphill.

most of these modern spreaders have a dish under the beater, which spreads the muck that drops off the conveyor slats when they turn over at the end of the trailer.

What i usually do with my current 3 ton spreader with 2 horizontal beaters, is leave the last foot of muck in it, for 2 reasons:
1. as you said, it takes so long because the beater throws the majority of it, back onto the floor, instead of expelling it and 2. when i start a new load, it takes a while before the load reaches the muck, and nothing will come out in the first half lane.
