3-Point Hitch MT372D DEAD DROP LEVER

I have a MT372 and the control lever for the 3-point hitch will not stay in the neutrial position it just falls down into the down position so the 3-point hitch will not stay up. What could be wrong?I have to hold it in neutral with my leg until I turn it off and then the lever falls forward and smash the gannon box hits the ground full force.The control knob works,three point position works,up works and rod with spring is in place but when it kicks it back to "supposed" neutral it just keeps going all the way to down.

I believe there is a tensioner under the lift housing that is broke.

Thank you for the reply.....I went as far as the manual told me and disconnected everything from the lift arms.Then lifted arms all the way up to assure full range of motion was capable.They did but I could hear something in there "pinging" as I lifted all the way up where the lever should be kicked back to neutral..........would love to have exploded parts diagram to see what I'm getting into but for now a bungie cord attached to handle on fender will have to do.Again thank you for your input.

Don't know if it's like my S470D, but I had the same problem. Inside the lift housing, the other end of the shaft the up/down arm bolts to, has notches. There's a spring steel piece that rides in those notches and holds the arm in place. Considering you have to take the lift housing off, it's really an easy fix. When you remove the lift housing and turn it over, the broken spring steel piece is right on top. One bolt holds it it place. I changed the fluid in mine while I had the lift housing off, it was easy to pour the new fluid in.
