My neighbor bought a 85 model MT372 and the lift dropped while he was using the box blade. Sheared the pin inside. He said it had a cotterpin in it!? The mechanic he got to work on it said he got a replacement pin for it and it eventually got fixed. Well, today while the neighbor was using the box blade, the lift failed again. Talking to him, the guy told him that the pin he put in was brass! Isn't that too soft for that application? Can't he just use a grade 5 bolt to fix that? We called around and were told that the replacement part is no longer available but we could use the bolt.

Thanks for your help.
John

Not sure exactly what pin your are speaking of, Do you have a diagram available to reference it? That said it seems neither a cotter pin nor a brass one is likely sufficient.

It's a pin(?)/bolt that I assume connects the lift arms to the actuator. If there is too much load/stress on the lift arms, it's supposed to shear before any damage can be done to the hydraulics. At least that's what I've been told.
