I am posting this in case anyone else runs into this bit of malicious sales practice by Microsoft.
Installed MS Office Home and Student 2010 which doesn't include full blown Outlook. My Windows Mail (formerly Outlook Express) DISAPPEARED! In it's place were links to Outlook. I forgot it wasn't included so I went through setting up email on it. When it finishes it says congratulations on activating your 1 month free trial of Office Professional. All of my saved email/addresses were GONE.
I couldn't find any shortcuts or the program file anywhere. After a little Google research, I found a forum post that recommended typing "msimn.exe" into the start menu search/run bar. That launched my old Windows Mail which immediately prompted whether I wanted to make it my default mail program. One click and my old Mail shortcuts were restored in place of the Outlook shortcuts. The actual program is winmail.exe under c:\program files\windows mail\winmail.exe.
"msimn.exe" must be an old name that is still recognized.
