While clearing my land today, I ran into this water moccasin. I was gonna let it go, but it reared up showed its fangs and went after LadyRider. I guess it thought it was trapped. Oh well Mr Snake, say hello to Mr Shovel.

35" - 2lbs 14ozs fat sucker he was. Mebbe now I can convince LadyRider to buy me the tractor to cut the brushes more often.

Well the way I see it, if she doesn't agree to the tractor now, you can always call the life insurance agent and increase the policy on HER life, then send her out to cut back the bushes. She'll probably figure that she'd be better off letting you make tractor payments than life insurance payments /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice one! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I never let a cottonmouth go away alive, they are the most aggressive of the poisonous snakes here (canebreak, timber rattlers, and coral snakes being the other most common). In fact, they are the only snake I know of that goes out of their way to hunt you down and bite you. Lot of the cows get bit on the brisket and swell up like a couple of basketballs. They are bad snakes.

Hey, I've got a recipe for water moccasin...

1 oz peach schnapps
1 oz Crown Royal® Canadian whisky
1 dash triple sec
1 oz sweet and sour mix

Added ice and ingredients in a shaker. Shake well until top becomes frosted. Pour into a cold glass pitcher and serve in shot glasses. But be careful so you don't get bit! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yup, it's that time of the year again.

I kicked up a copperhead the other day while on my dozer. He was hiding in a rotted out stump that I ground into dust.

It gives me the heeby jeebies after I see one. I keep expecting to see more of them everywhere I go.

Good job on killing that one!!!

Cajunrider, Not a bad moccasin you have there, mothers day last year my mother in law and my wife were strolling along a creek that feeds one of our lakes and as MIL started to cross the creek one of our guard dogs got in front of her and backed her off with teeth bared she thought my pup had gone hydrophoby and screamed but my wife used to our dogs training told her slowly back away from where she was, they started hollering to bring a gun, funny what a 357 does to a snakes head. My wife has developed quite a liking for snake skins this mocassin was over 5' and the very next weekend while swimming we were forced out of the lake by another even larger now my honey has a matched set of mocassin hides. I shoot em she skins preserves and scrapes the hides shes turning in to quite the country girl no whinning here. I can think of no other North American snake that I hate worse they are the only ones that once they see a human will advance and pursue with evil intentions, rattlers, corals, copperheads they will all avoid you if they can.
On a lighter note I think your tractor idea might work we saw our last mocassin in August and by November I had a M9000 Kubota tractor and all the toys to go with it.

Last summer, I saw the biggest Copperhead I've ever seen while bush hogging a field full of Canadian Thistle. Had the tractor ran out of fuel at that very moment, I would have starved to death right there. NO WAY I was getting off that tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Needless to say, I'm not a big snake fan.... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

During basic training (WWII) my father was bit on the leg by a Cottonmouth. Dang near lost his leg over that. I'm sure that has some bearing on my attitude towards snakes! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
