Mow\'n w/the BX23

Just checking in and reporting on my seldom used machine's performance.

Gotta say the BX23 is one outstanding mowing machine. It fits around the humble abode just right. Any taller and the hills & dales would become perilous. Any heavier and the grass may not spring back up as well, not to mention damaging the seemingly always wet lawn and any wider it wouldn't fit in many confines. The power steering & HST are effortless and that 3 cyl diesel is very frugal w/ that high priced fuel.

Back in Jan I fab'ed up a simple mulch plug and it seems to work pretty good. I had to mow some wet tall grass about 8 days ago so I just side discharged it w/o the plug. Left a few tell-tale rows of the brown clippings noticable a few days later. Finally got to mow the same but dry grass w/the mulch plug last night and the brown clippings disappeared after a few additional passes. Still haven't found any gator blades to fit so I'm running the OEM's. May opt for the mulch kit blades when I buy a set of spares.

The only drawback thus far is that danged ROPS. Its just too tall! Fold it down and you've got an additional 2 feet of obstruction sticking straight back. It needs to fold completely down!!!!! Since I've still got a couple more yrs before a couple Dogwoods grow high enough for the ROPS to clear I've got to mow the front w/it folded and it's playing havoc on some boarderline 5' fencing and a branch on the Mrs white Dogwood! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Oh and the kitchen's about finished, just waiting the quartz counter tops and got to cut stain & install a few pieces of trim and then it'll be MY OUTSIDE TIME!!!!!! Getting by with 3/4" plywood for counter tops till those custom cut expenditures finally arrive. The things a man's gotta do just to get a new tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Quite nice. I just got my BX2230 in time for spring clean up here in Canada. So far, all I've done is dethatch the front, sweep and then a spring clipping and water the lawn to get her growing. It's clean and will green soon, but I can tell the 60" mmm is going to be nice. The back is yet to be tackled with the same process. It's about an acre by itself and I have some mud left to clean from the January septic installation when the old crumbling concrete one's field line burst. Good learning experience for me with the fel as I have never worked one. I already had a 1000 gallon fiberglass, but was hoping for spring. Still have hay bails marks on the septic field (raises the frost line) and they'll green soon enough. Stacked the bails with the fel like an old hand in no time. Unfortunantly, I am away a lot and seat time is limited, IE rain, but once it dries up, I PAR3 for dandy lions.

Can't wait to get a brush cutter for the back 4, tiller, plow, disc harrow like the King Kutter...yee haw!
