Thanks Leon,
If I mount it on a reactor this fall, I will give your remedy a try. Not really familiar w/ fluid film? Is that a brand?

EDIT;

Thanks for follow up Leon.

Hello majorwager,

Fluid Film is a lanolin based lubricant that works well on just about everything and especially with snow blowers.

If you buy it in a quart or gallon size you can cut it fifty fifty with water and brush it on to make it go longer. The spray cans are just under $9.00 plus tax now and are handy for snow blower chutes and impeller housings.

You can purchase it at the local JD dealers in large volume lots(gallon cans, quart cans and pint brush cans I think or in NAPA stores now in spray cans.

There's a knock-off called "Slick Stuff" that's cheaper. My local home improvement/hardware box stores carry it.

When I need to make a surface slippery or waterproof, I use aerosol silicone spray. I used it on my spreader hopper to improve the flow of grass seed and prevent corrosion from fertilizer. Keep it away from brake surfaces. Great around electrical contacts and connections. It wears off slowly by mechanical friction.

sorry to bring this back from the dead but i just picked up what i think is a fh-188 today for 50 dollars. it's missing most of the blades and half of the pto shaft. everything turns like it should and i'd really like to use this thing but finding parts looks like it may be close to impossible. if anybody can point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it.

I would think someone can point you to parts. Drive shaft parts are still listed on line. Take one blade off and match it up. I would replace all the blades and bolts. If you were close, I would give you the money back in a minute.

I was advised here on tbn that bush hog flails were made for them by ford. flailmaster carries some of the blades. messick's and germanbliss carry some of the parts.

Hello and good morning feisthunter, belated new years greetings to you and yours.
Please fill in the rest of your information, by doing this a fellow "Flail Mower Nations Resident Member" that may be nearby can be of help you.

NO WORRIES my friend, we can help you, do not hesitate to ask questions. You can purchase blades from flailmaster and the bearings, V belts and the PTO shaft are normal generic parts. You should purchase a Kevlar V belt to replace the existing V belt as the Kevlar V belts are much more shock resistant. you should plan of changing the gearbox oil with fresh 90 weight gear oil.

You have a lot of cleaning to do. If you do not have a carwash nearby or a pressure washer with fan or cone nozzle using very hot water with Dawn Dish Soap in a hand sprayer and several different size wire brushes to remove all the dirt, dried grease and rubber dust will work.

No worries my friend, we are here to help you. Please remember that you are among friends that own the safest most efficient mower of any type for any type of grass and brush mowing.

Welcome to the Flail Mower Nations.
